THE OPPORTUNITY
CCSD teachers working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorderswere using a variety o paper orms to track student behaviors andinterventions, in order to create the most positive environment or thesestudents. The paper process was burdensome and inefcient, and didnot allow or a teacher to easily view historical inormation to learn whatinterventions and techniques would be most eective. CCSD sought amore efcient process or gathering data and tracking the eectivenesso interventions.
PCG Education introduced its ClassroomTrac personal digital assistant(PDA) tool to CCSD as a means to more efciently capture and trackbehavior and intervention inormation, both in the classroom and duringvisits to students homes. The hand-held device would allow teachers tocollect inormation more quickly and consistently and would signifcantlydecrease paperwork and reporting, allowing teachers to spend more timewith students.
THE PCG APPROACH
PCG began by evaluating CCSDs data input requirements, user interacdesign needs, and output reporting requirements. Consultants thencustomized the ClassroomTrac device to meet the districts busines
requirements, technical specifcations, and overall behavior data collectiongoals. Teachers attended one o three training sessions or the PDA in the
all o 2008 and began using the device in January 2009.By using ClassroomTracs web-based reporting system, stakeholders in achilds education plan can access the students behavior data in any secureonline location, at any time.
THE RESULTS
Ater just three months o using 120 ClassroomTrac PDAs in some240 classrooms around the district, CCSD noted a number o signifcanimprovements, including
an increase in consistency o data collected among the 120 teacherusing the PDA;
improved decision making or IEP teams;
requent use o the collected data in IEP meetings, leading toincreased communication and quality o student education plans;
improved documentation or due diligence and legal processes;
substantial time saved collecting data, allowing teachers to spendmore time in class with students.
