OverviewOptimizer4D
Many parts of Optimizer4D (but not all) consist of standard components. This ensures quick availability if spare parts are needed.
The device can be integrated into a control cabinet. It‘s also possible to use the unit with a separate case, for example, if the device is used with a manual mode machine.
It‘s possible to connect Optimizer4D to a notebook via USB or Ethernet, in order to transfer measuring data.

The display comes with four connectors: a. the HDMI-port (7, do not use the lower port that comes with specific versions); b. the USB-2.0-connector (8, marked with black color inside of the socket; do not use the blue sockets); c. the power supply (9).
Connectivity options
I/O-Ports: If you use an output-port of any kind (I/O 4 or Output 3), it‘s essential to bridge the three GND (ground) connectors.
In order to power the device on you can use the power switch (4) or briefly connect the unmarked sockets in Input 1 and Input 2.
Attention! Do not confuse the RJ45-Ports (5) with the Ethernet port (1)! Malfunction or even destruction of the device is possible if a ethernet plug is connected to the pre-amplifier-ports (5)!

Measuring chainThe measuring chain of Optimizer4D consists of a sensor (shown left in the image), a connector from sensor to pre-amplifier, the pre-amplifier itself and a pre-amplifier-cable (green) from pre-amplifier to Optimizer4D.
Vcc Power port allocation
Uninterrupted power supply (UPS)Integrated uninterrupted power supply, UPS: This component consists of several supercapacitors (Super Caps). In case of a blackout, the UPS enables the measuring device to shutdown properly. This will prevent loss of data to a major extent. Just the measuring data of the work piece which was processed in the moment of the blackout will be lost.

Pre-amplifier The pre-amplifier is installed between measuring computer and sensor. As the cable connection to the sensor is maximum 50 m, the mounting of the pre-amplifier is done close to the sensors.
Do not mount the pre-amplifier to rotating machine parts! Three LED lamps with the same colour serve as a display for reports and flash when ready to operate. The preamplifier has protection class IP67.
Preamplifier cableA cable connection with an Ethernet cable is established from the preamplifier to the measuring computer. The cable type is Unitronic Etherline Pflex Lat. 5 with 4x2x0,26 mm. Both ends have a RJ45 plug. The connection to the preamplifier is sealed with a M16x1,5 screw connec-tion.

Sensors consists of a piezo-ceramic element which detects high frequen-cy impulses, also known as acoustic emission or structure borne noise. The piezo-ceramic element is placed into a cylindrical housing of heat-treatable aluminium.
Do not expose the sensors to tempera-tures above 130° Celsius.
Mount the sensors with a torx wrench (size t-25), use a force of 6 newton-meters. If the surface is not flat, a tin washer is used. You can also use a magnetic adapter, but the signal trans-mission is better if you use screws. Attach the sensor as close to the tool or work piece as possible to ensure signal strength.
Following installation and commissio-ning, Optimizer4D executes a self-test, in order to determine if the sensors are correctly installed, among other things. This test is done with 550 V. There is no danger for persons, for the galvanic isolation between sensor housing and the sensor itself.
The sensor cable (from sensor to pre-amplifier) is equipped with MCX (or Microdot for CiS.01) plugs, standard has one straight and one angled plug. Depending on the kind of usage you can choose between several lines:
• different lenghts• different line sheathings, e.g. teflon or synthetic material.

QASS µmagnetic Sensor The sensor itself consists of a coil that collects high-frequency Barkhausen Noise and of a magnetic field coil that produces the excitation field. During the hardness testing, QASS µmagnetic magnetizes the compenent. Consequently, jumps occur in the strength of the magnetic field. The system records these jumps in real-time.
AttentionDo not expose the sensor to a tempera-ture above 70° Celsius (186° Fahrenheit). To prevent overheating, turn of the excita-tion field between measurings.
Recommended settings for the excitation field that can be done in the signal gene-rator of Optimizer4D:
Step ValueAmplitude 4 0,25 VFrequency 1000 100 Hz
The cable that connects the sensor and the pre-amplifyer comes with MCX plugs. It comes with several options for length and surface coating.
Dimensions are shown in millimeters.

This power amplifyer is installed bet-ween measuring computer and sensor. The connection cable has a length of up to five meters.
Power amplifyer cableConnection is established with a scree-ned 8-pin cable. This enables DC power supply as well as AC power supply of QASS µmagnetic sensors. Connection to power amplifyer is established with a Lumberg SV80 plug, connected to the Lumberg KFV80 socket of the power amplifyer.
Attention!Line voltage MUST be adjusted to local voltage with this switch. In Europe: 230 Volt, in North America: 115 Volt.
Do not attach this pre amplifyer to move-able machine parts!

Protective casing
If you want to use Optimizer4D in a hazardous environment or at a manual mode machine, QASS recommends the protective casing which resists dust and mechanical impacts (including handle). An optional signal lamp shows if a work piece is good or faulty by a red or a green light.

Carrying casing „QASE“
QASEThis is a transportable casing which is helpful if you want to use Optimizer4D at several locations or machines.
QASE is made of durable plastics. Optimi-zer4D is securely installed into this casing and by this it‘s applicable for mobile and scientific uses. QASE includes protective foam case inserts and compartments for cables and keyboard with enough space for sensors and pre-amplifyers and it also includes a 22-inch-screen monitor which is integrated into the lid.

Optimizer4D writes measuring data in real-time to it‘s harddrives. While using highest data rate, Optimizer4D saves up to 25 MB / s to harddrive. This means 1,5 GB / min or 90 GB / h. 1 TB of memory will be full in roughly 11 hours. Additionally, Optimizer4D saves results of measuring (crack / no crack) as statistics to a database. It‘s also possible to add screenshots to this statistics. You‘ll dra-matically save harddrive space if you keep just the screenshots and the statistics as opposed to the complete measuring data. Basic memory configuration of Optimi-zer4D provides 500 GB of SSD memory. You can freely add as much memory as you want up to 6 TB in steps of 1 or 1,5 TB. There are four slots for harddrives availab-le. Refer to list below for examples. For extended needs for storage, a external NAS-system is available. This system stores up to 128 TB (sufficient for up to 1400 hours of measuring with one measuring channel).
