Presbyopia• Eye lens loses elasticity and plasticity (the ageing of a

lens)• Defect starting up to 40 years of the age of a man• At the age of about 60 stabilizes• It affects all people• „Short arms“, postponing of work nearby

Hypermetrop - presbyop• Start earlier• Stronger converging lenses

Myop - presbyop• Later start• They take off distance glasses for reading

Correction• Glasses for reading• Bifocal, trifocal lenses• Multifocal lenses• Contact lenses• Laser operation• Intraeye lens• monovision

Glasses for reading• Only for one distance• For ametrops necessity to change glasses for different

distances

Bifocal, trifocal lenses• Only 2 (3) distances• Jump of picture• Limited visual field• Visible divide

Multifocal lenses• Vision in all distances• In periphery „swinging of picture“• Narrow space for middle distance • Longer accustoming time

Intraeye lens

• 1. an eye lens is replaced with a multifocal lens• PRELEX• Difraktion streaks• On the retina 2 pictures, in distance and nearby• From the beginning sickness• In the future an operation of katarakta won´t be in danger

• It is possible to change a lens in case of unsuitability

Prelex

Intraeye lens• Lens is put into eye with concentric circles• Patient can see in all distances• From the beginning sickness• He doesn´t have to acclimatize to it…next operation• If it doesn´t suit , it can be taken out

Putting off presbyopie• American doctor William H. Bates at the turn of 19. and

20. century• Practise eye exercises for 10-15 minutes every day• Without glasses• To practise exercises as far as we manage

Warming up• Close eyes and and nod your head• Forward and back• From side to side• All around• 15 times in every direction

• Up and down• 10 times

• From left to right• 10 times

• From up left corner to down right corner• From up right corner to down left corner• Everyone 10 times

• Circle with eyes to one side and other side• To each side 5 times

The Alphabet• Several times circumscribe a letter H and A with your

eyes• Start on down left• End on down right

The envelope• Circumscribe a shape of an envelope with your eyes• Up on the left, down on the right,up on the right, down on

the left

The clock• Imagine a large clock face• Go pass single figures with your eyes• In direction of clock hands and the opposite direction.

Focusing• Focus on the top end of a pencil• Still focus and move a pencil closer

Focusing• Focus on a distant object (5m)• Focus on a close object (10-15cm)• 10 times

After exercising• Lean on• Close your eyes and cover them with your palms• Relax• For 1-3 min
