What is Delegation?

American Nurses Association—

Transferring responsibility for the performance of an activity from one person to another while retaining overall accountability for the outcome.

Basic Concepts of Delegation

RN has ultimate responsibility and accountability for the management and provision of nursing care

RN must be very clear and concise in the expectations and tasks that are delegated

5 Rights of Delegation

1. Right Task 2. Right Person 3. Right Direction/Communication 4. Right Circumstances/Time 5. Right Supervision/Evaluation
