Portfolio Wendy PetersPart 2: Branding and User Research

Tokyo - JapanApril 2016

Trained more than 20 employees on how to conduct qualitative research on the end-user in order to understand their needs. Orches-trated training session on how to execute home visits and interviews.

① Understanding People’s needs

Organized brainstorm sessions to find patterns and create solutions for the end-users interviewed for the purpose of overcoming the employees’ fear of ex-pressing opinions. With this training I succeeded to break the tendency to withhold decenting opinions in Japanese work culture.

② Finding Patterns & Exploration

Instructed Employees on Design Thinking

Provided prototype marerials and instructed the employees on how to make their ideas tangible.

③ Make Tangible

Test prototypes and working samples on end-users to evaluate the cognitive ergonomics and suitability of the prod-uct.

Brand Image Overseas

Created several new branding concepts and exe-cuted “Timeless beauty” - a direction that sends

Onkyo’s Japanese roots abroad.

In order to use Japanese Culture as a selling point in the international market, it was necessary to re-search the international consumers’ idea of what is “Cool Japan.” After researching and conducting surveys, we narrowed our focus to the widely rec-ognized Zen Culture. As an ideology that focuses on pureness and simplicity, Zen Culture provided the best opportunity to combine the internation-al idea of “Cool Japan,” with Onkyo’s hi-resolution

audio products.
