Augmented StreetscapesCOURSE : Design Fundamentals10BPROFESSOR : Coleman GriffithYEAR : Spring 2011
OBJECTIVEDesign a system of surfaces that creates a sequence starting from the metro station on the corner of Wilshire and Westwood where groups of protestors will begin their march. Study how new social media has had an affet on protests and intergrate the surfaces into the site as programatic street furniture.
CONCEPTThe new media I decided to study was the Playstation Home. It is a virtual world where users create an online avatar and control it in a third person view. This virtual world has event spaces which link to actual events hap-pening in the real world. In 2009, an event called Xi was created in which users had to find clues in the virtual world which led them to other clues found in websites and in public places around the globe. I diagramed this whole event by marking the locations of the clues between the virtual and physical world and also the internet. I followed a walkthrough on how to beat this alternate reality game which I found in the playstation website. The intervals consist of 20 primary missions and 23 secondary missions. The primary missions tended to be individual missions while the second-ary missions could have only been completed as an online community that helps each other.
Augmented Reality is the state of seeing the physical world through a me-diated lense. It combines data from the virtual world and aids the person looking through this lense. Modern phones now have apps that augment reality. Just like these apps, the architecture informs and redirects the user.

GRAND CENTRAL MARKETCOURSE : Graphic Communications 12BPROFESSOR : Neiel NorheimYEAR : Fall 2010
SiteThe Grand Central Market in Los Angeles is a very active place with a diverse range of people. Integrating a place for music was a challenge since this location is filled with noise. Making a quiet space for an ensemble to play while also allowing the existing program to have a musical experience was the main idea kept in mind.
DesignThis design creates two main spaces for music two be played. One is on the main floor and is completely isolated from the site. This makes a more intimate by shutting off the outside noise and allowing classical music to be enjoyed. It uses the shift of the floor levels as a stage. The other space is directly above the first space and is open to the sky. This space would be used for musicians who use amplifiers or drums.
OBJECTIVETo design a space for music to be played inside the Grand Central Market in Downtown LA by using a system of surfaces.
Draw an equalateral triangle.Rebuild each curve with 5 points and 3 degrees.
Move the center control point from each curve towards the center of the triangle.

Spacial SequenceCOURSE : Design Fundamentals 10BPROFESSOR : Coleman GriffithYEAR : Spring 2011
OBJECTIVEThis assignment was to study ordering principles and spacial relation-ships. The project is a sequence of interlocking spaces and circulation along the side of adjacent spaces. The circulation started the sequence in the main entrance and released the space it inhabited once it was pulled out. No other space or circulation piece could be released unitl the piece that comes before has been pulled off. Diagrams were pro-duced prior to the construction of the model. These diagrams were used to show the circulation, adjacent spaces, interlocking spaces, spaces connected by a common space, and linear spaces. This helped students figure out how the model was going to function as a sequencial inter-locking system. Walnut wood was used to show the adjacent/private spaces along with the rest of the site. All the public spaces are made out of acrylic and the circulation is made from bass wood. The building chosen required to have had been built within 5 years and needed to have show most of the organization priciples and spacial relationships.
Proportional InterlockingCOURSE : Design Fundamentals10APROFESSOR : Sandy Lee YEAR : Spring 2010
Process Drawing Diagram
OBJECTIVEThis assignment dealt with a variety of proportional methods. Stu-dents had to research a case study of a proportional technique. The students had to design a 4 piece interlocking volume with 4 different materials and the dimensions had to come from a draw-ing produced by the study using a proportional technique. No dimension can be repeated in any other part of the volume.
ConceptThe method I chose to do was the method of regulationg lines. I started with a rectangular piece measuring 9”x12”. Then I drew a diagonal line from one corner to its opposite. From the center of that diagonal line I drew another line to the top of the shape. From the center of that line I copied the same diagonal line and then I extended the lines from the previous rectangle. I did this 5 times and used the dimensions from the smaller rectangles in the drawing to get the top and front dimensions of my volumes. I interlocked them in a way that would make them all experi-ence one another and make a space togerther. This space is in the core of the project.
Villa NMCOURSE : Graphic Communications12BPROFESSOR : Neiel NorheimYEAR : Fall 2010
OBJECTIVETo learn how to use Photoshop, AutoCAD, Rhino Maxwell, and Illus-trator by using UN Studio’s Villa NM as a case study.
ProcessUsing Photoshop, drawings from UN Studio’s Villa NM were scaled and their dimensions were converted. These Dimensions were used in Rhino to model the VIlla. After the completion of the model, Maxwell was introduced to add materials and create renderings. Renderings were driven to be more of an abstraction than a re-alistic image. AutoCAD was used edit plans given from the Rhino file and then. Edited plans were then taken into Illustrator to adjust line values.
