Sir/Madam,

The Postgraduate and Research Department of English in

association with the department of Political Science is organising a two

day UGC sponsored National Seminar on Media, Technology and

Democracy. Eminent media magnet and Chairman of Media

Development Foundation & Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, Sri.

Sasikumar, will inaugurate the function. We are also including a panel

discussion comprising the experts from the media. It is an

interdisciplinary seminar that advocates reforming the mass media,

strengthening public service broadcasting and developing public

participation in alternative media and freedom of expression. The

seminar aims at analysing literature and other cultural discourses to

understand the democratic qualities of new media sensibility. The

seminar attempts to make a probe into the functioning and operations of

various democratic institutions including parliament, judiciary, law and

other ideological state apparatuses. Additionally it makes a foray into

the structural transformation of media system, whether contemporary

media could keep its quintessential democratic qualities, or it is

supporting the dominant discourses of power. Participants are free to

open up their insights, ideas and opinions and discuss aspects of

democracy, technology and media, their symbiotic function,

responsibilities and repressions.
