by Joey Deutsch

Ansel Adams● Born February 20 1902 in San Francisco, California● Died April 22 1984 in Monterey, California● Worked with film● Photographed natural landscapes/mountains● Inspired by the Yosemite mountains at a young age● Mostly uses black and white● Well known for photographing mountains (The Tetons

and Snake River)● Cared for the environment, developed the Zone System

(used by colorists as a universal value scale)

The Tetons and Snake River, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Old Faithful Geyser, Yellowstone National Park

Looking down toward peak formations, Grand Canyon National Park, California

Tree with snow on branches, Yosemite, California

I chose to research Ansel Adams because I had already known about how he developed the zones system for proper exposure of photos. I think it is the reason why his photos, even though they are mostly black and white and have simple subjects, look so good. I like his style of photography because he is able to work with natural settings and environments and make them look appealing using simple composition guidelines and proper exposure.
