Petroleum Geology of the Parshall Field Area, Mountrail County, North Dakota

Total Middle Bakken Isopach Map

The Middle Bakken thins to the east and thickens tothe west. The middle member gets up to 70 ft thickwest of Parshall Field and the maximum thickness inParshall Field is approximately 40 ft.

Facies E and F Isopach Map

Facies E and F combined get up to 20 ft thick to thenorth and west of Parshall Field. Within ParshallField thicknesses range from approximately 10 - 15ft thick. Core porosity ranges from 3 - 11% and corepermeability ranges from 0.0001mD - 0.62mD.

Facies D Isopach Map

Facies D is the highest energy facies in the area andgets up to approximately 20 ft thick to the north andwest of Parshall Field. Within Parshall Field, thisfacies is mostly absent with some sporadic intervalsof up to 10 ft thick. Core porosity ranges from 1 -11% and core permeability ranges from 0.0003mD -0.03mD.

Facies C Isopach Map

Facies C is the thickest to the west of the ParshallField at approximately 30 ft. This facies is present onthe western side of Parshall Field but pinches out onthe eastern part of the field. Core porosity rangesfrom 2 - 10% and core permeability ranges from0.0001mD - 0.05mD.

Facies A and B Isopach Map

Facies B is the thickest facies in the area. It is up to 30 ft thick westof Parshall Field and approximately 10 - 15 ft thick in Parshall Field.Core porosity ranges from 2 - 10% and core permeability rangesfrom 0.0001mD - 0.738mD.

Facies A is ranges from 1 - 4 ft thick but is mostly absent in theParshall Field. Core porosity ranges from 2 - 6% and corepermeability ranges from 0.0001mD - 0.30mD.

E-W Cross section through the Parshall Field Area (location of section is on isopach maps). Datum is the top of the Upper Bakken. This cross section demonstrates the absence ofFacies D in the Parshall Field as well as the pinching out of Facies C. Eventually Facies B also pinches out as the basin edge is approached.

N-S Cross section through the Parshall Field area (location of section is on isopach maps). Datum is the Upper Bakken. This cross section from north to south shows the lack of aconsistent Facies D and even Facies C in the area. These two facies appear to be mainly confined to middle Bakken paleolow areas.
