Julius Caesar

Caesar was a statesmen and Roman general

Conquered Gaul, extending Rome's territory to the North Sea

Lead the first invasions into Britain by Rome

These achievements in military power could not be matched and threatened Pompey, which was in control of the senate

Caesar's Assassination Caesar was ordered by the

senate to stand trail in Rome

Instead he invaded Italy and took over

Caesar took control of Rome and began extensive reforms in the society and government.

On March 15, 44 B.C., he was stabbed and killed, in an attempt to restore a constitutional government

This resulted in several civil wars instead

Prince Henry The third son born to King

John I of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster

Responsible for the early European exploration and maritime trade with other continents

Prince Henry never actually sailed on any of the voyages he sponsored. He established a school for the study of the arts of navigation, mapmaking, and shipbuilding.

March 4, 1394- November 13, 1460

“Henry the Navigator”

At 21, Henry, his father and brothers captured the Moorish port of Ceuta in northern Morocco allowing him to explore the African coast.

His main goals included stopping the pirate attacks on the Portuguese coast, finding the legendary Christian kingdom of Prester John, and finding the source of the West African gold trade

Henry found none of these things
