PaTTAN’s Mission

The mission of the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance

Network (PaTTAN) is to support the efforts and initiatives of the

Bureau of Special Education, and to build the capacity of local

educational agencies to serve students who receive special

education services.2

PDE’s Commitment to Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)

Recognizing that the placement decision is an Individualized

Education Program (IEP) team decision, our goal for each child

is to ensure IEP teams begin with the general education setting with the use of supplementary

aids and services before considering a more restrictive

environment. 3

Purpose/Objectives• The purpose of this session is to inform special

education administrators on the various aspects of the Standards Aligned System (SAS) so that they can share the information and resources on SAS that are essential for special education teachers to know and access to increase student achievement.

• The three lenses and avenues to explore on SAS are as follows:– Identification– Individualization– Differentiation

4

• How can SAS inform the identification process/gathering of Present Levels?

• How can SAS aid the development of goals and short term learning objectives?

• How can SAS assist teachers to differentiate classroom instruction for all students?
