ASM Cluster File System (ACFS) Integration

• New Oracle 12c and 11g databases are automatically created in ACFS with Appliance Manager 12.1.2.X release

• Benefits of using ACFS

– High performance and highly available cluster file system

– Leverages underlying Automatic Storage Management (ASM)

– Fully integrated with Grid Infrastructure

– Database aware

– Support advanced storage features like file system snapshots and replication

– Very high disk IO (native) performance for database workloads

– Optimal for both database and non-database workloads

• Existing databases remain in ASM until migrated to ACFS

Database Snapshots

• Rapid and efficient provisioning of database environments for development and testing of applications

• Complete OAKCLI integration

– Very fast way to create database copies

• Snapshot databases only uses space for the data that changes

– Only meta-data is originally created

– Blocks are written when data is changed

• Create large number of snapshots for a given database

Veriton: “O-Box” Solution

Company • Veriton has been working with Oracle since 1995, and Oracle middleware since 1999 • They build infrastructure solutions to meet business improvement needs. These typically

employ components of Oracle Fusion Middleware on top of the Oracle Database, and are used for call-center applications and other demanding websites.

• Veriton is often engaged to help design or review system architectures including server hardware, network design (especially application delivery controllers/load balancers), storage and virtualization platforms.

Solution • O-box Products is developing robust appliances based on ODA, such as the O-box SOA

Appliance, to greatly reduce deployment time and improve robustness. • They’ve been working on Fusion Middleware clustered builds for quite a few years now and

have been very pleasantly surprised with how easy the ODA WebLogic environment is to provision. In particular the new multi-domain features are allowing them to run

several environments, such as acceptance, test and training, on a single ODA. This

is particularly relevant to the latest ODA model which has 48 cores, so plenty of

processing power.

Customer Benefits • Simple “2 stick” install: from first

boot to SOA infrastructure in just a few hours

• Full documentation: minimal training and consulting required

• Reduced risk and cost: no trial and error required

• Complete: No de-scoped areas, eg Security

• Standard architecture: Conforms to Oracle OA EDG

• Appropriate mix of memory and cores between components: tuned for best fit for ODA

O-box solution
