The Obras Por Impuestos (Public Works Through Taxes) pro-

gram, or Law 29230, benefi ts regional and local governments,

private companies and local communities. Here’s how:

for Regional and local Governments, the program:

• Advances fi nancial resources that are discounted from the fol-

lowing four years’ budget once the public work is complete.

• Allows the reallocation of staff to other projects.

• Accelerates how quickly public works are carried out,

sustaining or strengthening the local economy.

for Private Companies, the program:

• Demonstrates exactly where and how their taxes are

contributing to local communities.

• Accelerates public works that could improve the

competitiveness of companies. For example, better roads

improve access to local markets making it easier to transport

supplies.

• Improves the effi ciency of their sustainability programs and

allows companies to recuperate their entire investment.

for local Communities, the program:

• Speeds up socioeconomic development, accelerates

investment in infrastructure and improves the quality of

public services for locals.

• Generates direct and indirect employment through

construction work and, once a project is complete, through

maintenance of the public work.

• Infrastructure improvements attract companies to the

community and generate new business opportunities.
