OUR GARDEN
Our school would like to establish a small orchard for the children to tend. We already have two
trees (an apple tree and a mandarin tree) kindly donated by Mr Thomas when he recently completed his internship. We want to do this up near the vegetable garden, but the soil is very hard and full of clay. We need to break it up first using a machine such as an excavator or rotary hoe. I know it's a big ask, but if anyone has the equipment and the time, we would be most grateful. The area is approximately 12 m x 6 m. I could arrange to be there one weekend to open the gate. If you can help, you can contact me via the school. Thanking you in anticipation. Margaret Reynolds. (Garden Teacher)
GARDENING We had a record number of children doing gardening this week. It's wonderful to see the
enthusiasm and delight that they have in making our school look great. The veggie garden
group watered, weeded and planted many cucumber seeds, ready for summer salads.
The squirrel-glider group continued the watering of the small plants there. The unseasonal
heat has affected some, but it's mostly looking good. This group also planted some
watermelon seeds in the old canteen veggie garden.
Our bush tucker group continued to weed, mulch and water, as well as lay the mosaic
pavers, clean and refill the birdbath, and plant two macadamia trees. Much hard work was
done, but enjoyed by all.

Dear families and friends of Morisset PS
Stage 1 is very excited in the upcoming excursion to the zoo. Stage 3 is counting down the days until they head
off to Canberra. I would to thank the staff who organise and supervise these extra curricula activities which
takes time to carefully plan. Excursions reinforce what is being taught in class as well as giving students
experiences outside the school. Please check out the school website to get an update on how much learning
and fun students have on excursions. Last week, Mrs Lorenc and staff took a group of students on a fishing
experience. This resulted from the talk we had earlier in the year from Volunteers from Fishery Department .The
students had a ball and were skilled or lucky enough to catch fish. All fish were kissed and returned safely to the
lake. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the photo!
One of our school leaders, Katelyn Penman was invited to join Mr Mark Sneddon (Morisset High School
Principal) in his duties as a Principal. Next week Katelyn will let us know what it is like to be a Principal in a
high school.
Mr Kyrwood is busy organising our yearly presentation celebration held in December. Parents of students who
will be receiving an award will be notified by their child’s classroom teacher closer to the time. Student leaders
and staff went around to the local businesses of Morisset to collect prize donations and money contributions
towards medals and book prizes. If you or someone you know (particularly our departing Year 6 families) would
like to sponsor a medal award please let Mr Kyrwood or the office know. (It is $10 to sponsor a medal award).
Thank you to parents who attended the Canteen meeting on Tuesday. Your support and volunteering ensures
the canteen will remain open as well as supporting our school in providing a service to families.
A Communication Survey was sent home last week. Please find the time to complete the survey as your
feedback is important in our future planning as well as strengthening our communication between school and
home. We have offered a $20 gift card as incentive to gather your valued feedback. We would greatly
appreciate your responses to be returned by Friday 8th November.
Another program we have been able to access due to National Partnership funding is Targeting Early
Numeracy. This Friday Miss Gundert and myself are heading to a meeting where we will be showcasing the
great work our staff and students are doing in the TEN program. TEN is an intensive numeracy program aimed
at Kindergarten to Year 2.
Hopefully parents will be able to spare some time to be in our audience for the wonderful African drumming
show that will be held at our school on Tuesday 5th November at 2pm. This show was sponsored by the Song
Room – Drumming which is a program we have been able to access due to National Partnership funding.
Congratulations to Class 1/2J who will be working with Isabella, our drumming specialist, on Friday afternoon.
They have been producing fantastic work in class and can’t wait to have their turn on the drums.
Thank you parents for your support in ensuring our students are in school uniform and wearing the school hat.
Thought for the week. “It is impossible to get out of a problem by using the same kind of thinking that it took to get into it.”

Jargon explained
If your child's teacher mentions G&T in the COLA, she's actually talking about gifted and talented classes

MPS Goes Fishing
Last Thursday a group of students from our school went fishing. Earlier this year John, from The Department of Fisheries, talked to students across the grades about
fishing. Because of the Interest shown, a selected group of students had a chance to participate in this program. John and a few volunteers showed the students the ins
and outs of fishing. One of the aims of this excursion was to help the students develop their interactions with each other in a different setting. It was also a chance for them to enjoy the beauty of nature and perhaps encourage a
relaxing hobby.

IT’S TIME TO TRADE IN YOUR DOLLARMITES TOKENS FOR A REWARD. If you have been saving this year with School Banking and collecting
your silver Dollarmites tokens, then now is the time to redeem them for a reward before you miss out. You need to use your tokens before the end of Term 4 as you will not be able to use
them next year. Once you have chosen the reward
item(s) you would like to receive, complete the coupon on your rewards card and take it, along with your 10 tokens per reward, to school with your next School Banking deposit.
Important: Our Dollarmites Moneyboxes will no longer be available from next year. Some rewards are in limited supply and are on a “while stocks
last” basis. Commonwealth Bank of Australia ABN 48 123 123 124
