The SystemPrimary Schools

We thought you may be interested in the system we have here.First we go to a primary school for nine years, that’s compulsory. The lessons last 45 minutes and in year 1 you have about 4 lessons/day, while in the 9th one you have up to

7 lessons/dayThis is the school we both ‘come from’. We used to study there for 5 years and then at the age of 11 we decided to go to the Gymnázium.

The SystemSecondary Schools

Then most people go to a secondary school. You don’t have to though. The schools are usually specialised in a certain subject. Our Gymnázium is one of those that aren’t. It’s also different, because unlike the most of other secondary schools it has special classes for talented children who would normally study at a primary school in years 6-9, so it takes

8 years to finish it instead of the usual 4.

And this is the main entrance of our current school.

We have different subjects every day. We started with 6 lessons/day and now we have 7 per day.

The SystemUniversities

• After secondary school (and the final Maturita exam) you can go to a university. Unfortunately there isn’t any in Třebíč, so we’ll have to choose a bigger city to study there in the future.

During the Breaks… Sometimes at the break

time we need to move from one classroom to another. If we want to, we can buy a coffee, hot chocolate or some food in the vending machines. Everyone has their own locker where they keep many things (e.p. books, clothes, shoes). And every day we should have a look on the noticeboard, it’s written there if some lessons are canceled, what is new at our school etc.

Our Favourite Subjects• Russian At our school everybody

studies English and another foreign language which we can choose. We can study Russian, French or German. Many students choose Rusian, because they want to learn some Slavic language and many of them take the Maturita

exam in Russian.

Our Favourite Subjects• EnglishEnglish is usually the language we start

studying in year 3 of primary school, so in our school it is compulsory for everyone. We use a textbook and do a lot of listening and reading activities and talk a lot and sometimes we even watch some short videos in the lessons.

Our Favourite Subjects• History Many of us are interested in history. This

term we are learning about the Middle Ages and last term we studied Prehistory, Ancient Greece and Rome. Every week we have two lessons of History and we have to do “summaries” after every topic we learnt in case that we would want to take the Maturita exam in History.

Our Favourite Subjects• ChemistryIn Chemistry we talk

about what happens if you for example pour sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid together, but we also try it in our chemistry lab.

Solution:NaOH + HCl NaCl + H2O :-)

That´s us and our school (the entrance for students)

Greetings from Ivana and Jana :-)
