Ethidium intercalated between

These molecules cause structural modifications that can lead to functional changes, often

to inhibition of transcription and replication and DNA repair processes, which make

intercalators potent mutagens.

Two major modes of inercalation

Classical intercalation Threading intercalation

Inserted between GpG base pair

That form the top and the bottom of

intercalation site

Occupy and interact with both major

and minor grooves of DNA

Intercalation by Inert Square-Planar and Octahedral Metal Complexes

sites by matching the

shape, symmetry, and functionalities of

the metal complex to that of the DNA

target.

Adducts of Ru-Arene Complexes with Nucleobases and DNA

Large low-field shifts for protons on rings B and C of Ru-tha are observed for the monoruthenated DNA adduct.
