3.0 CONTROLLER APPLICATION The hand held pendant connects to the 3-axis stepper controller via the supplied cable. With the pendant you can download G-code programs using the USB port and a memory stick or by connecting to a computer using the USB type B connector at the bottom of the unit. You also have the ability to “Home” and position the head as needed. Other functions include changing parameters such as process speed, acceleration, and C.A.D. material thickness. The menu button accesses various setup screens for performing self checks and system updates.

3.2 Compound Buttons There are some compound buttons to be used for special applications. The procedure is to press the first button and hold, then press the second button. Now release the two buttons at the same time. The functions of the compound buttons are listed below:

3.3 Home Operation Modes When power is turned on to the hand held unit, the “Z” axis goes to it’s home position and the message “Goto Home?” appears on the screen. If you want the head to go to the “0,0” home
position, determined by the X,Y axis proximity switches, press the
ORIGINOK button. If you do not
want the head to go to the “0,0” home position, press the
RUN/PAUSE
DELETE button. When the hand held unit
is in Manual state, press 9HOME
and the head will go to the “0,0” home position. While it is going
home, pressing the STOP
CANCEL button will stop the head at it’s current location.
CAUTION: As the head is going home, watch for any potential points of interference that could damage the spindle head.

3.4 Menu Setup Upon reaching home position, the unit will be in Manual state and appear as shown:
Press the MENU
button to enter the menu screen. There are five headings but only four can be viewed at any one time.The fifth heading is VERSION VIEW.

4.1 Machine Setup Parameters 4.1.1 Pulse Equivalent: Pulse equivalent means the pulse number when the axis moves 1mm. It’s unit is pulse / mm. Pulse equivalent = (360 degrees / step angle). To change the current “X” axis value, input the
new number and press the
ORIGINOK button.to save it. The cursor moves to the next line. If it does
not need to change, press STOP
CANCEL to advance to the next line or to the previous menu.
IMPORTANT: If the pulse equivalent in the controller is different from that of the engraving machine. The processed file size will NOT be to the drawn specification. 4.1.2 Table Size: Table size refers to the actual motion size of the 3 axes. Because the system applies the table size as the soft limit, you should set the table size with the number it actually is. Otherwise it will
show as “Over the Limit” or it might run into the side rail. Press the
ORIGINOK button and the cursor
will be on the “X” axis value. If it needs to change, input the value directly and press
ORIGINOK to
save it. The cursor will move to the next line. If no changes are necessary, press STOP
CANCEL until you
return to the menu. To move to another line in the menu press either the X +1 button to scroll
up or the 5X
button to scroll down. 4.1.3 Motor Direction: Motor direction changes the moving direction of the motor. This setting affects all motion
direction of the 3 axes. With the Motor Dir line highlighted, press the
ORIGINOK button to enter the
Motor Direction Axis screen. To change the direction of the “X” axis press Y +2 or
Y6 .

to move the cursor to the next or previous line. If the direction does
not need to change, press STOP
CANCEL to exit and return to the previous menu.

4.1.4 Home Setup: Two parameters that can be changed are Home Speed and Home Direction. Home speed refers to how fast the head returns to the home position. Normally the “Z” axis home speed should be slower than the “X” and “Y” axes. With the Home Setup line highlighted, press the ORIGIN
OK button. Home Speed will be highlighted. Press the ORIGIN
OK button to enter and set the speeds of the 3 axes.
Input the new value. If you input a wrong number, press the
RUN/PAUSE
DELETE button to delete the previous
one, and then enter the correct number. After finishing the input, press the ORIGIN
OK button to confirm and save the new “X” axis speed. The cursor moves to the “Y” axis speed automatically.
If no change is necessary, press STOP
CANCEL to move to the “Z” axis speed change. If a change is
necessary, follow the above procedure. When you finish these settings it will return to the “Home Speed” menu.
Press 5X
to move the cursor to the “Set Home Direction” line. Press ORIGIN
OK to enter the setting. See the display as shown above.

4.1.5 Spindle Setup The system offers the spindle control function. If the connection board and the converter have been connected, the spindle speed can be changed during process.
Move cursor to “Spindle Setup” item then press ORIGIN
OK to enter. Then it shows the value of spindle state, the default value is 8. If it needs to change, input the value directly then press ORIGIN
OK to save. It will show the line state. Set the lines state according to the Converter. A down
arrow ↓ means Multicast OFF state, an up arrow ↑ means ON state, press the Y +2 or
Y6
to change property then press X +1 or 5

button to move the cursor to next line, press ORIGIN
OK to confirm all changes. If it does not need to change, press STOP
CANCEL to exit and go back to

4.1.6 Spindle Delay Spindle Delay is the delay time to allow the spindle to come up to full speed. The spindle delay is set in milliseconds. The default value is 4000 milliseconds.
To change the current value, input the new number and press the
ORIGINOK button.to save it. If it
does not need to change, press STOP
CANCEL to advance to the previous menu.
4.1.7 Voltage Setup The voltage property menu shown in the “Machine Setup” chart has been set at the factory for both the Input Volt and the Output Volt. No further adjustments are required. 4.1.8 Speed Limit Speed limit stands for the MAX speed of X, Y, & Z axes. This is a default setting and was set at the factory. No further adjustments should be required. The machine will run at the default speed if you set up a processing speed higher than the default speed.

4.1.9 C.A.D. (Cutter Adjust Device) Thickness Cutter Adjust Device (C.A.D) is used to set the Z axis working origin. Users must set its thickness, otherwise the Z axis working origin will not be correct.
If you have used this function, you need not press XY 0
4 to clear. It must have physical connection between the machine and connection board.
The C.A.D function is accessed through the pressing of the compound buttons, MENU
+ ON/OFF

, then release them at the same time. Then Z axis goes down slowly, when it reaches the Cutter Adjust Disc, it will go up. The Z axis working origin is now set.

4.1.10 Screw Interspace Screw Interspaces refers to the screw offset. Its value cannot exceed 1mm.
Move cursor to “Screw Interspaces” item, then press ORIGIN
OK to enter the item, cursor is on X axis value automatically. If it needs to change the value, input the value by pressing the numerical
buttons and decimal point to enter the needed value, and then press ORIGIN
OK to save the changes, the cursor moves to the next line. When all three lines have be entered, the screen will move back to the previous menu level.
If the value does not need to change, press STOP
CANCEL until the screen will move back to the
previous menu level.
The X +1 and 5

buttons are in value state, pressing them will enter that value and will not move the cursor.

5.1 AutoPro Setup Parameters 5.1.1 Linear Acceleration Linear acceleration relates to line motion ability. It’s default is 600mm / sec2. To change, input
the value directly and press ORIGIN
OK to save. If the auto process speed is less than 10 meters / minute, the acceleration is about 300-600mm / sec2. If the speed is is more than 10 meters /
min., you should adjust the acceleration value. To return to the menu screen press STOP
CANCEL.
5.1.2 Curve acceleration Curve acceleration relates to curve motion ability. It’s default value is 800mm / sec2. To change,
input the value directly and press ORIGIN
OK to save. If the auto process speed is less than 10 meters / minute, the acceleration is about 300-600mm / sec2. If the speed is is more than 10 meters / minute, you should adjust the acceleration value. To return to the menu screen press
STOPCANCEL
. 5.1.3 G code Read Setup G Code Read Setup refers to the rules of reading G code file. Because there are many special data code.
Press the X +1 or 5

to move the cursor to next line item. Entering the settings, the cursor is on “Read F Disable” line item.
If the program needs to execute the F code in the file, then press Y +2 or
Y6 to change its
property. “Disable” will change to “Enable”. “Disable” means to ignore the F code while “Enable” will execute the code. Display Error refers to display the wrong G code file, so that user can correct it. Z height refers to the raising of Z axis when it finishes working. “Enable” means that Z axis raises to the set height after it finishes all work. “Disable” means that Z axis raises as the file asks.
Press the ORIGIN
OK to confirm the change. The display moves back to the previous menu.
Press the STOP
CANCEL to cancel the change and move back to the previous.

6.1 System Setup Parameters 6.1.1 Languages The default language is English. The alternate choice is Chinese. 6.1.2 Function Configuration The Function Configuration feature is used to set system functions such as file format, I/O checking, button checking, and system update. 6.1.3 Inner Format Inner Format refers to formatting the internal flash memory. When you finish the system
update, you must format the inner files. Move the cursor to Inner Format and press ORIGIN
OK .
When formatting is complete press the ORIGIN
OK button to go back to the previous menu. 6.1.4 Input Self Check Input Self Check refers to the system checks input terminal properties. 6.1.5 Output Self Check Output Self Check refers to the system checks output terminal properties. 6.1.6 Buttons Check Buttons Check refers to checking the buttons on the hand held unit. Move the cursor to the line
labeled Buttons Check and press ORIGIN
OK . Press each button on the hand held unit and the corresponding button should highlight on the screen.
To exit back to the previous screen press compound buttons ORIGIN

6.1.7 System Auto Update System Auto Update allows the user to update the hand held unit by first downloading the files from the website www.richnc.com. Copy the files to a USB smartdrive and plug into the hand
held unit. Move the cursor to “System Auto Update” and press ORIGIN
OK to display the screen shown.

7.1 Advanced Pro System Parameters 7.1.1 Multiple Setup If you need to run a file multiple times, there are two ways. The first way is to copy all files and save them as one file in G-code making software. Then download it to the handheld controller. The other way is to take a single file and set the multiple function parameters for it.
With the Multiple Setup line highlighted, press ORIGIN
OK to highlight the Row Column line and
press ORIGIN
OK . With the cursor on the Row(s) line, input the new value directly. The cursor will
move to the column setting. Press ORIGIN
OK to save the change and return to the previous menu.
Press the 5X
button to move the cursor to RowSpace ColumnSpace. Press ORIGIN
OK and enter or change a value on the RowSpace line. The cursor moves to the ColSpace line. Press ORIGIN
OK to save the change or to return to the previous menu. Press 5X
to move the cursor to
Pause Time. Press ORIGIN
OK to enter. (Pause time refers to the time between parts.) Input a value
directly and press ORIGIN
OK to save the change or go back to the previous menu. If no change is
necessary, press STOP
CANCEL to quit and return to the previous menu.
7.1.2 File Maintenance U disk file list refers to those files on the USB memory stick. The hand held controller can run these files via the USB port. Inner file list refers to those files saved in the internal memory of the controller. File maintenance means to View, Copy, and Delete these files.
Press the ORIGIN

to navigate through the lines of code. Press Y +2 to go to the first line of code and

to the last line of code. Press STOP
CANCEL to quit and return to the previous menu.
To Copy a file use the 5X
button to scroll down and highlight the Copy File line. Press ORIGIN
OK to read the following note: “Please select the file that needs to be copied, any button to
continue.” The U Disk file list will be highlighted. Press the ORIGIN
OK button to list the files. Scroll
through and select any file by pressing the ORIGIN
OK button. The following note will appear: “Please
select target file, any button to continue”. Scroll to a line that says No file and press ORIGIN
OK . The
file will be copied. To do a check, scroll up to the View File and press ORIGIN
OK . Scroll to and press ORIGIN
OK to select Inner file list. Your copied file should be listed. To Delete a file, follow the procedure below.
Note: Once a file is deleted it can not be recovered.
Using the 5X
button scroll down to Delete File and press ORIGIN
OK . Scroll to the file you want to
delete and press ORIGIN
OK The screen will show File Deleted. Press STOP
CANCEL to return to the
previous menu. 7.1.3 Password Setup The system does not support the password feature at this time.

8.0 VERSION VIEW Initial Version Normal Version 9.0 PROCESS Process includes Manual Process, Auto Process, and Advanced Process. 9.1 Manual Process Manual process refers to controlling the machine by pressing buttons on the DSP hand held unit. Users can change manual speed and grid dimensions. After the machine goes home, the system will be in manual mode as shown. Manual process speed can be changed between High speed and Low speed by pressing the HIGH/LOW
0 button. To adjust the speed for the current setting press STOP

The cursor will be on the “X” axis line and highlighted. Press the
RUN/PAUSE
DELETE button to set the value.
Input the new number and press ORIGIN
OK to save the new value. If the input number is not correct,

DELETE to delete the last number. Use the X +1 and 5

buttons to scroll to a different line. Manual Process Modes: In order to meet various manual movement requirements there are three available modes: Step, Continuous, and Distance. Step mode always moves at a slow speed with a spacing of a grid per second. The Low Grid value will be set between (0.05mm to 1.0mm). This mode is suitable for precise placement of the head.
Continuous mode allows the operator to move the head using the following buttons: X +1
Y +2
Z +3 5

Y6
Z7 . The head will move until the button is released or until it
reaches the end of travel. Its speed is determined by the current speed mode.
Note: If the button is pressed for less than 0.5 second, and released at once, the head moves to and stops at the nearest step point automatically. When this moving mode ends, the head always stops at the step point.This mode is suitable for adjusting the position of the head.
Distance mode allows the operator to press moving direction buttons X +1

Z7 and the head will move to that specific location according to current speed
mode and set spaces. The moving is not influenced by the grid point and stops precisely at the
set distance. From the manual start screen, press the MODE
button until the Dist line is
highlighted. Press

DELETE to set the value and enter the new distance. Press ORIGIN
OK to save the new value.

9.2 Auto Process Auto Process refers to running USB disk files and Inner files also called file process. Before running any file, the machine and system parameters should be set correctly. The Auto Process operating steps are as follows: 9.2.1 Set Working Origin When the controller is in manual state, move the 3 axes (2 axes on manual “Z” axis machines).

OK to select where to get the file from. Only three files appear on the screen at any one time so use the same scroll Up/Down buttons as above. Press ORIGIN
OK to select the target file and STOP
CANCEL to quit and return to the previous menu.
9.2.3 Process Parameter Settings
After pressing the ORIGIN
OK button, the controller needs to set the process parameters including: Process Speed, Travel Speed, Z Down Ratio, Process Speed Ratio, Speed Grad, Equivalent Pulses/mm for “X, Y & Z axes, and Z Up as displayed on the following page.
Note: Only four lines can be viewed at any one time.

OK to begin checking the G-code data. After checking the data, the router should start cutting the piece. The screen display is shown here: Proc Spd: (Process Speed) The speed at which the data file is read or processed. Trvl Spd: (Travel Speed) The speed at which the head moves on the “X & Y” axes. ZDownRat: (Z Down Ratio) Controls the slow down movement of the “Z” axis It has a range of (0.1 – 1.0). This function is not operational on machines with a manual “Z” axis. Spd Rati: (Speed Ratio) It is used to reduce the process speed. The actual process speed is (process speed x Speed Ratio). Its range is (0.1 – 1.0). Spd Grad: N/A Equival pulse/mm: (Equivalent pulse/mm) It displays 3 axes equivalent values which you can not change here. If you need to modify them, enter the menu. Z Up mm: (Z Up mm) It refers to the height that the “Z” axis can go up. If the “Z” axis height of a file is over this limit it will adopt this limit instead. This function is not operational on machines with a manual “Z” axis. 9.2.4 Process Adjust
When the file is executing, press Y +2 and
Y6 to change the speed ratio. Each press on
Y6 drops the ratio 0.1 until it is 1.0. The speed values change synchronically. Each press of
the Y +2 button raises the ratio 0.1 until it is 1.0.

9.2.5 Process Pause and Position Adjust
While it is processing, press
RUN/PAUSE
DELETE to adjust the position of the three axes, then press
RUN/PAUSE
DELETE to
Pause. It asks “Original?”. Press ORIGIN
OK to confirm your change. It then processes from the new
position. Press STOP
CANCEL to deny the change and it will process from the original position.
9.2.6 Process Stop and Stop Point Saving
While it is processing, press STOP
CANCEL to stop the processing. It
pauses to save a stop point. If it needs to restart the process from the current position at a later date then you should save it.
Pressing X +1 will save the stop point as No.1.
It will display on the screen as shown:
Press ORIGIN
OK to save the setting. The 3 axes will go back to the home origin. If it needs to
continue to process from Stop Point 1, press compound buttons
RUN/PAUSE
DELETE + X +1 . It now starts
processing from Stop Point 1. Follow the same operating steps for Stop Point 2, Stop Point 3, and so on. In order for the stop point process to work, the 3 axes must have been homed before saving the stop point. 9.2.7 Power Off Protection: The system will automatically protect the process data should the power suddenly be disrupted.
When the power is restored, press ORIGIN
OK to go back to the machine origin. Then it pauses at
“PowerOff reboot?”. Press ORIGIN
OK to continue to process unfinished work or STOP
CANCEL to quit.

9.3 Advanced Process Advanced process is a function for special applications which includes: Segment Process, Multiple Process, Segment-Multiple Process, Auto Copy Process, Mill Table, and Tool Change. Press compound buttons RUN/PAUSE

0 to display: 9.3.1 Segment Process: This allows the user to select the beginning line or ending line of the file so that a portion of it can be processed. The operating steps are as follows:

or the Inner file list by scrolling to and pressing ORIGIN
OK .
Scroll to the desired file using the X +1 and 5

buttons. Press ORIGIN

OK to display line 1 of the G-code.

Input the line number you wish to start at and press ORIGIN
OK The G-code for the line you selected will appear on the screen.

9.3.2 Multiple Process: Use this function if you need to set multiple parameters in the menu. The steps are as follows:
From the Advanced Process Menu use the X +1 and 5

OK to enter setting. The U Disk file list will be highlighted. Select
either the U Disk list or the Inner file list by scrolling to and pressing ORIGIN

OK to select the target file. Set the process
parameters similar to the steps in the Auto Process section 9.2. Press MENU
to view the
