O > 2010 AnnuAl RepoRt
The end of yet another year and
the start of a new one are always
celebrated at the Odebrecht
Organization annual meetings. It
is at these meetings that, for a few
hours, the company leaders show
what was completed during the
applicable period and establish the
challenges for the next.
Since 2009, each company has
organized its own event. This year,
on december 10 and 11, Odebrecht
Oil and Gas (OOG), Odebrecht
Realizações Imobiliárias (OR) and
ETH Bioenergia gathered their lea-
ders in the cities of Itaipava, in Rio
de Janeiro, and in São Paulo and
Guarujá, along São Paulo’s Southern
coast, respectively. It was an oppor-
tunity for the professionals from
the three companies to take a look
back and focus on that ahead - the
year 2011.

professionals presented their
results in 2010 as well as the Action
Programs (APs) for the next harvest,
sharing experiences and planning
the next challenges.
To inspire the actions propo-
sed for 2011, the Schürmann
Family opened the first day of the
meeting. The lecture was led by
Vilfredo and david Schürmann,
who highlighted union, determina-
tion, planning and planned dele-
gation as the essential elements
for success during the expeditions.
The desire to transform dreams
into reality was cited by the sailors
as the main secret to achieving

during the presentation of the
APs, Marcelo Odebrecht, Managing
director of Odebrecht S.A., highli-
ghted the Organization’s achieve-
ments in 2010 and the challenges
for 2011. He affirmed that the
number of Members has grown
over 20% per year. “This year, the
Odebrecht Organization achieved
the mark of 115,000 Members and
will surpass 137,000 next year,” he
said.
José Carlos Grubisich: “In February 2010, ETH had 6,000 Members. We closed the year with double the number of pro-fessionals.”
Marcelo Odebrecht also
spoke about the agricultural
expansion and internatio-
nalization of ethanol at ETH
and mentioned the synergy
between the companies as
one of the goals for 2011. The
partnership between ETH and
Braskem for the production of
green plastic, whose main raw
material is ethanol, was one of
the examples cited.
José Carlos Grubisich,
Business Leader at ETH, pre-
sented his perspective on the
bioenergy sector in the coun-
try, the middle and long term
challenges and the importan-
ce of Brazilian ethanol in the
international energy matrix.
He emphasized competitive-
ness, sustainability and the
integration of professionals as
the pillars for success in 2010,
a year marked by important
strategic changes, such as
the joining of Brenco assets
and the inauguration of two
new Agroindustrial Units.
“Similarly to the Organization,

ETH also experienced signi-
ficant growth in terms of the
number of Members: from
6,000 in February to 12,000 in
december of this year,” said
Grubisich.
The countless challenges for
the 2011/2012 harvest begin
in April, with the company’s
preparation for the IPO. ETH
also wants to guarantee that
all units are producing at their
full capacity and aspires to be
the leader in the bioenergy
sector in Brazil.

> climAte chAnges
From November 29 to december 10, Braskem,
ETH Bioenergia and Odebrecht took part in the
16th Climate Change Conference (COP-16) of the
Parties to the United Nations Organization, held
in Cancun, Mexico. Over 12,000 people, including
representatives from governments, the private
sector, universities, NGOs and civil society from
over 190 countries discussed the global efforts
and proposals for combating the impacts caused
by climate change.
The main topics debated included the continu-
ation of the Kyoto Protocol, the definition of goals
to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and
the financing of the actions to mitigate and adapt
to the climate changes in developing countries.
The idea was to consolidate the negotiations
for a climate agreement as established in the
Bali Action Plan signed in 2007 at COP-13. The
plan presents the guidelines for strengthening
the implementation of the UN Convention on
Climate Change and involves a two-year nego-
tiation process.
At the end of the conference, the countries
signed the “Cancun Agreements,” which include
decisions and resolutions about the adaptation
of the impacts of climate change, mechanisms to
reduce emissions due to deforestation and forest
degradation (REdd+), mitigation, technology
transfer and financing. The meeting also defined
the bases for negotiating the continuity of the
Kyoto Protocol, an important step for a more
ample agreement.
COP-16 produced positive results in terms of
the negotiation process, but other issues must be
decided during 2011 at the COP-17, in durban,
South Africa.

Brazil had a privileged space at the
Cancunmesse Pavilion of delegations, the site for
parallel events and meetings during COP-16. The
Espaço Brasil Auditorium was site to activities,
seminars and lectures and publicized government
and private sector actions.

during the debates, Braskem, represented
by Jorge Soto, Responsible for Sustainable
development, reinforced the importance of
renewable raw materials in the production pro-
cesses. The green plastic technology, produced
from sugarcane, was presented as one of the main
solutions for the low carbon economy. Antônio

new petrochemical investment to be installed in
the country over the upcoming years.
Carla Pires, Responsible for Sustainability at
ETH, showed the contribution of the ethanol
chain for this type of economy, as well as the new
business opportunities in the cultivation of sugar
cane, such as the co-generation of electric energy
through sugarcane bagasse.
Suzana Domingues, Technological Innovation
Manager at the company Cetrel S.A., highlighted
the projects and research focused on effluent tre-
atment and energy generation using industrial
waste, which help reduce GHG emissions.
Sérgio Leão, Responsibility for Sustainability
at Odebrecht, described the case study of the
Green Ethane Project and demonstrated that,
besides the precautions taken in the areas of
health, safety and environment, the project
elaborated the GHG Emission Inventory for
the civil and assembly work during the entire
period.
The actions to reduce GHG emissions at the
Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant pro-
jects in Rondônia, and the Clean Development
Mechanism Project at the Palomino
Hydroelectric Facility, in the Dominican
Republic, were cases presented at COP-16.

december 15 in Rio de Janeiro.
The project’s initial focus is to attract young
talents from the city’s low income communities
with a potential for high performance, who will
receive a monthly financial assistance scholar-
ship as a means of encouraging their participa-
tion in the preparation programs for the selec-
ted sports.
“The signing of this agreement represents a
seed for the national sports,” said João Borba,
Business development director at Odebrecht

de Janeiro’s Northern Zone. The Olympic sports
chosen are track and field, weightlifting and
boxing, in order to recognize the importance of
individual sports.
“We expect this agreement to generate excel-
lent return for the training of medal winners
during the Olympic Games and we believe
that this initiative will inspire other institu-
tions to encourage sports in the future,” said
Admiral Álvaro Augusto dias Monteiro, General
Commander of the Marine Corps.
Odebrecht’s sponsorship will give the Navy
all the structure necessary to train the athle-
tes, including installations, equipment, meals,
lodging, transportation, insurance, medical
assistance, accommodations, clothing, foo-
twear and accessories. Also included are the
professional services of the technical coaches,

tioning as to the 2020 Vision, in which
the company’s objective is to become an
international leader in sustainable che-
mistry through investments in innova-
tion and a focus on customer relations.
“Being recognized by an index with
well established criteria that represent
actions in the social, economic, envi-

spheres demonstrates to the market that
the good practices adopted by Braskem
generate effective results and elevate
us to a sustainability level that is above
average when compared to other com-
panies,” said Luciana Ferreira, director of
the Investor Relations area.
Last year, Braskem achieved the best
SHE (Safety, Health and Environment)
indicators since its foundation in 2002.
The company was able to reduce its
generation of solid waste by 61%, Green
plastic, which is made from sugarcane, is
another one of Braskem’s achievements
in terms of raw material of a renewable
origin.
In September of this year, the com-
pany inaugurated the first international
unit for green ethane production on
an industrial scale for the production
of green polyethylene. Recently, the
Company also announced the conclusion
of the conceptual phase of the project
for a new green propane plant, which
will serve as raw material for the green
polypropylene. It is set to start opera-
ting in 2013.
innovATion foR pACkAGinGTo reinforce its portfolio for the segments of BOPP (bioriented polypropylene) and PP
films, Braskem launched two thermo polymers at the start of december: Symbios 4102
and Symbios 3102. The new resins were especially developed to serve as outer packaging
layers.
With the new products, the Brazilian market will have a national option to replace
this material, which until now was imported. The resins will also be available for the
company’s other clients in Latin America.

For 40 days, over 6,000 Members and partners of the Braskem
Camaçari Project, undertaken by Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial
in Bahia, were involved with the 2010 CEMAP II Shutdown.
The interruption of activities took place at the Basic Raw
Material plant, where machinery and equipment services were
performed to boost the operational reliability of the plants and
meet legal requirements. “A General Shutdown of this size is per-
formed every six years and the planning for the same begins at
least one year and a half ahead of time,” said Christiano Cotrim,
Shutdown Manager.
The work was completed in two shifts and included the assem-
bly and disassembly of scaffolding, a pneumatic test, cutting
and welding tasks, work at heights and in confined spaces for
internal cleaning, the boiler room, inspection and replacement
of parts and cargo movement. Over 40,000 activities were iden-
tified and planned for the shutdown. “With the support of the
production area, the planning team followed the progress of
the work daily, since other tasks were completed in a parallel
fashion,” said Cotrim.
According to Christiano Cotrim, to organize a general shutdown
of this size, which involves a large number professionals, four fac-
tors are crucial: planning, partnership, selection and training. “One
of the main challenges of a shutdown is to complete it without
any accidents and within the established deadline,” said Cotrim.
Marcelo Marçal, Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)
Manager, explained that strategic planning was crucial for ensu-
ring the training of all Members. “We were also able to elaborate
and provide risk analyses and other documents applicable to the
process,” he said.

“When consumers purchase a jar of Cultiverde
brand heart of palm, they are helping farmers
stay in their region.” These were the words of
Pepe Faro, Board member of Perini (Bahia chain
of delicatessens and candy stores) during the
inauguration of a new project under the con-
cept of “store inside a store.”
The initiative, made possible by a partner-
ship between Perini and the Bahia Southern
Lowlands Heart of Palm Producers’ Cooperative
(Coopalm), allows for the direct sale of the
Cultiverde heart of palm, produced by the 490
members of Coopalm for the final consumer.
The ceremony, held on december 9, marked
the start of the activities for the Coopalm store,
located in the rural region of Perini Master
Vasco da Gama, in Salvador (Bahia). The space
has its own cash register and directs the earnin-
gs from direct sales to Coopalm – an institution
associated with the Bahia Southern Lowlands
Environmental Protection Area Mosaic
Integrated and Sustainable development
Program (PdIS). The first sale was made during
the event to Norberto Odebrecht, Chair of the
Odebrecht Foundation Trustees Board.
With this partnership, the Cultiverde heart of
palm is offered on the shelves of this social par-
tner without surcharges, promoting a more fair
and community trade. “There is no middleman

Since 2008, Perini, which currently has eight
stores in Salvador, supports the cooperatives
tied to PdIS. With the installation of the “store

partnership with the program and contributes
further to the generation of jobs and distribu-
tion of income in Bahia’s Southern Lowlands

When Matthew Ngombu learned that
Odebrecht International was launching a
social program focused on transferring com-
petencies, skills and knowledge in his native
country, his eyes sparkled and he smiled.
Ngombu had been looking for a company for
a few months in his search for a professional
experience in the private sector.
Since then, the young man, who had
worked with humanitarian organizations
in African countries, has been part of the
Iron Ore Project Social Responsibility and
Volunteer Work Committee – rehabilitation of
an iron ore railroad for ArcelorMittal. “I never
imagined that the company had this concern
with social development,” said Ngombu. “My
contribution is for Odebrecht to be recogni-
zed a true partner in the country’s develop-
ment,” he said.
The new Social Responsibility Program was
structured based on four pillars: Competency
Development, Highway and Railroad Safety,
Health and Hygiene and Volunteer Work. The
first, which constitutes the main component
of the program, will train instructors and
managers and prepare young students for the
job market, strengthening the only univer-
sity-level institution in the city of Buchanan,
the Grand Bassa Community College (GBCC),
which also offers vocational courses.

“Considering the post-war scenario in
Liberia, where basic needs overlap with the
desire to learn, the implementation of the
program to transfer knowledge and create
competencies is fundamental,” explained
Pedro Paulo Tosca, Contract director. “The
partnership between GBCC and Odebrecht,
which also receives Client support, will pro-
vide opportunities for students to begin
their professional career with qualification,
facilitating their entry into companies ope-
rating in the country,” said Tosca.
Starting in February 2011, participants will
be able to choose from the welder, indus-
trial machine operator and lubrication cour-
ses. Internships in the administrative and
technical areas will also be available.
A Memorandum of Understanding was
signed between the local government,
GBCC and Odebrecht to formalize the
launch of the program. For Levi Zangai,
President of GBCC, the initiative can
promote similar actions at other
companies.
“The training offered to the youth from
the communities and local Members will
help transform our awareness and our atti-
tudes, helping the next generations also
make the correct decisions,” said Harriett
Keamu, Liberian civil engineer.

Investing in the Subsea MarketIn November 2010, Odebrecht Oil and Gas
(OOG), in consortium with Acergy, signed
an agreement for the project management,
engineering, supply and manufacturing
of the shallow stretch of the Petrobras
Capixaba South North Gas Pipeline. In this
way, the company became the first to effec-
tively invest in the Subsea market in Brazil.
“This project represents a milestone for
OOG and for the Odebrecht Organization,
since it indicates our entry into the Subsea
segment, serving our Clients and offe-
ring integrated solutions for the offshore
market,” said Jorge Mitidieri, Managing
director of OOG. The company’s Subsea
area is focused on supplying flexible and
rigid conduit laying services and the ins-

diameter gas pipeline along the Espírito
Santo coast. With a water depth between 30
and 100 m and extending 150 km, the pro-
ject will connect the Camarupim Field gas
pipeline to the Parque das Baleias Complex.
“Winning this contract gives us the oppor-
tunity to work with a partner that is recog-
nized in the sector, helping us increase our
presence in Brazil,” said Gilles Lafaye, Vice
President of Acergy for South America.
Odebrecht Oil and Gas also plans
to invest in state-of-the-art ships for
laying the conduits, logistics bases and
manufacturing sites, initiating its opera-
tions throughout Brazil to then expand
them into the countries in which the

Odebrecht is considered one of the 10
best places to work in Argentina, and is the
only company from the civil construction
sector, according to Great Place to Work
2010, the award that has become a referen-
ce in the evaluation of work environments
in over 40 countries.
With 450 Members, the company was
recognized in the category of companies
with 251 to 1,000 workers, primarily due to
its commitment to the education of profes-
sionals and the high level of trust and dele-
gation entrusted to these individuals at all
hierarchical levels.
Operating in Argentina for the past 23
years, one of the projects undertaken by
Odebrecht is the expansion of the Cammesa
and Albanesi gas pipelines, developments
that will increase the total natural gas trans-

the Odebrecht Organization

cial for this achievement,”
said Altit. “This distinction is
the result of the effort and
dedication of the company

the constant search for the
