Lively and authentic
– inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list 1991 as an outstanding example of well preserved wooden town
– 28 hectares– 600 buildings– 800 inhabitants – CBD – more than 200 shops
– medieval features– timber frames from the 17th
century on– mainly neo-renaissance

– Since 1682 Rauma has not suffered from a major fire.
– The oldest town survey from 1698 – 1710 shows the results of rebuilding following the fire. The street network, the plot names and locations in this survey are much the same as today.
