Chapter

The Academy of LDS Dentists is an organization of dental professionals who are dedicated to serving mankind. Its mission is to promote dental education among professionals and the general public; to promote and facilitate dental service by its members, providing manpower and expertise in dental care delivery; and to procure and distribute equipment, supplies, and educational materials to aid in patient treatment and educational pursuits. We seek to accomplish this in a family centered environment which embraces the standards and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, allowing members to enjoy a rich fellowship based on common ideals and philosophies. We embrace the philosophy that it is better to teach someone how to do something that to just provide a service. The mission of the All-Hill Student Council is: 1) to maintain and develop an intellectually stimulating atmosphere conducive to the acquisition and application of health and science knowledge; 2) to take action in the best interest of the student body and the OHSU community; 3) to provide an official unified voice through which student opinion may be expressed; 4) to provide an official and representative student on school designated committees which receive complaints, investigate student problems and participate in decisions impacting OHSU students; 5) to establish and maintain formal communication between the student body and the faculty/administration; 6) to promote the exchange of information and ideas among the various schools at OHSU. (AVDS)

Alliance for Visible Diversity in Science focuses on one central mission – to increase visible diversity within the Graduate Studies programs at Oregon Health & Science University by recruiting, retaining, and most importantly, supporting graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, staff, and faculty members from underrepresented backgrounds. We recognize and reflect the important notion that in order to increase diversity on our campus, we must make targeted, deliberate, and measurable efforts to create an environment that not only welcomes, but encourages a diverse population of people. The mission of the Bedside Medicine Interest Group is to promote bedside exam skills to health care professional students. While new technologies have allowed health care professionals to see and hear things we could not before, physical examination skills are still essential in providing good patient care and can help diagnose patients and decrease unnecessary tests. Cardiology Interest Group (CardIG)

The mission of the student-lead Cardiology Interest Group at OHSU is to introduce our peers to the opportunities and philosophies of cardiology and cardiovascular medicine. By providing students with hands-on learning experiences we aim to enhance our understanding of cardiovascular physiology, its systemic implications, and clinical cardiology. To this end, we will organize training workshops, provide shadowing experiences, connect students with research opportunities in cardiovascular medicine, and participate in community outreach. The Graduate Student Organization (GSO) is an organization by and for graduate students of the School of Medicine. Students from PhD, Masters and Graduate certificate programs are welcome and encouraged to be involved. Graduate students from all programs (including other OHSU schools) share common needs and challenges; the GSO gives students a forum to discuss these issues. We provide a community, both academic and social, for graduate students at OHSU. It promotes communication amongst students and faculty from the different disciplines and departments, while acting as an advocate for graduate students individually and as a whole.

Medical Students for Choice (MSFC) is dedicated to ensuring that women receive the full range of reproductive health care choices. MSFC recognizes that one of the greatest obstacles to safe and legal abortion is the absence of trained providers. As OHSU students we stand in solidarity with people and communities impacted by gun violence. As future health professionals, we have a duty to minimize vectors of human illness and injury - including gun violence - and to contextualize these forces within social, economic, and political frameworks. We recognize the ongoing work of activists on this issue and seek to elevate their voices through our advocacy. Our mission is to introduce students to Point of Care Ultrasound and provide opportunities to practice imaging and become familiar with reading scans. We also aim to connect students with POCUS faculty and offer opportunities for volunteering and teaching skills to other students.

The broad purview of wilderness medicine includes topics such as emergency care in the wilderness, high-altitude medicine, dive medicine, travel medicine, humanitarian disaster relief. Common threads include providing medical care with limited resources in harsh environments far from further support.
