2019 was a very successful year that marked solid progress for all our teams. Both adult teams, St. Cillian’s (Senior) and Carrig and Riverstown (Senior B) were very competitive in their respective Championships and made it to the semi-final stages. St Cillian’s Junior team reached the League final and Carrig and Riverstown Junior team reached the Junior B Championship Final. At underage St. Cillian’s captured the Minor B championship as did the under 13 team. St. Cillian’s also had Shield A wins at under 15 and under 14. CRC Gaels reached the League finals at under 13, under 15 and Minor levels. In the championship a young minor team made it to the A semi-final while the under 15 team got to the A final after a great campaign. Not to forget earlier in the year Carrig & Riverstown and CRC Gaels both captured Leinster League titles. 2019 also saw the Club carry out major refurbishment of it’s dressing rooms and construct a lighted walkway around the pitch. All in all a very successful year.

CRC Gaels Under 15 Team had a great year winning a Div. 2 Leinster league in May. Having reached the
final in both league and Championship A they were unfortunate to come up against a very strong Kilcormac /
Killoughey team. The talking point at half time in the final was the standard of the hurling but KK proved to be
too strong in the second half.
CRC Gaels minor team had a very successful year in
reaching the Div. 2 league final and the A semi-final in
the championship for such a young panel. All but 2 of
the panel are under age next year. Front;C Stevenson,

Championship semifinal with wins over Belmont,

Ballinamere and Kilcormac/ Killoughey. They reversed
the previous defeat by Ballinamere in the semi- final but
failed to overcome Kilcormac / Killoughey in the final.

Senior B Hurling Our senior team had an indifferent start to the year with a number of poor performances in
the league and early rounds of the championship. When the championship resumed in mid-July we were in
need of a win in our next game against Shamrocks. Things did not look great at half time, we trailed by 7
points 1 – 8 to 0 – 4. Nobody in attendance in Rath that evening could have anticipated what happened
next. A transformed C & R team took the game to Shamrocks from the throw in and notched up 3 – 12,
scoring some excellent scores while limiting Shamrocks to 1 – 1. That 10-point win was followed up two
weeks later with another 10-point win over Tullamore 3 – 18 to 2 – 11. Suddenly things looked a lot brighter.
In our next game against Lusmagh we seemed to have done enough to win with another great second half
performance only to let it slip at the death and lose by a point, 2 – 17 to 4 – 10. Clodiagh Gaels was our next opponents and after a fine first half we appeared to run out of energy in the second and lost on a score of 3 -
17 to 0 – 17. The last game in the league stage of the championship was a must win game against
Kilcormac/ Killoughey and we prevailed by 4 points 1 – 20 to 1 – 16. This win kept us out of the relegation
zone and gave us a quarter final fixture with Drumcullen. This was arguably our best performance of the
year. A goal in the second minute by Michael Kennedy set the tone for the game. Another goal in the first
half from the penalty spot by Aaron Dolan, after he was fouled in the square, gave us a 3-point lead at half
time 2 – 4 to 0 – 7. The goals continued in the second half, 2 goals in the space of a few minutes the first
from Thomas Hough and the second by Willie Gleeson had the game all but wrapped up with twenty minutes
to go. Final score 4 – 12 to 1 – 13, an 8-point win. In the semifinal against Clodiagh Gaels we led at half
time but a goal half way through second half for Clodiagh Gaels swung the game in their favour. We battled
all the way to the final whistle but finished on a score of 1 – 16 to 0 - 16
Under 20 Hurling; The club was represented on the Offaly
under 20 team by Aidan King and Ryan Hogan. Carrig &
Riverstown had 9 players on the St Brendan’s Under 20
Hurling team that got to the final before losing to a strong
Ballinamere team ; C & R panellists were; Ross Connaughton, Michael Fitzgerald, Brendan Hoctor, Aidan
King, Mark O Brien Joe Kelly, Ryan Hogan, Dylan Hogan and
Catha
Offaly Minor team; Joseph Hoctor played on the Offaly Minor team in 2019.
Dressing Rooms upgrade A major refurbishment of the dressing rooms

modernising the showers and toilets areas, flooring and tiling. The work was

O’ Meara while Benny Larkin looked after the woodwork. Fabulous job.

car park. This project was supported by North Tipperary Development

support. A special word of thanks to Mark McDowall for his help with
both Projects. Great job Seamus and Andrew.
