KIPPA-RING STATE SCHOOL
Newsletter
Term 2, Week 1
24 March, 2020
Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Members of the Kippa-Ring State School Community,
Welcome to Term 2 Week 1!
Working towards inclusive online learning at home
I sincerely would like to thank our parent community for
their positive commitment towards supporting their
students’ learning at home, with either online or learning
packs. This has been a very trying start to the term, in
these unprecedented times. We at Kippa are very grateful
for our parents’ positive, respectful, flexible attitude with
their access with our OneNote platform.
Some of our parents are choosing to collect a learning pack
to support their child’s access. I encourage you to also
continue to persevere with logging on to the learning
platform, as we are finding more students having success
each day. There is a high volume of online access from
9am, so we suggest you try before or later in the day to
download OneNote in the app, as per instructions sent
from Mrs Drummond earlier this week, and then you can
work in the app offline.
I would also like to acknowledge the huge amount of work
that Mrs Drummond, Mr Lunnon and our Class Teachers
have done during the last week of Term 1 as well as over
their holidays. You will see the amazing activities once your
child opens their folder in OneNote. I am sure your
students will love this different style of learning.
Please remember the learning grids have many activities
that do not require connectivity and can be utilized to
continue to develop concepts from their learning in a
household context. If you are having difficulties getting
your child to settle or accessing work, get them to write a
journal of their activity each day, read a book to or with
you every day. You can watch a suitable aged movie and
discuss the story line, retell what happened; talk about the
characters and how they interacted with each other as well
as the story plot and what role the characters played. Ask
your child to write a story about an event, true or make
believe. Remember to describe the characters in detail,
what they look like, say and do and draw a picture to
illustrate their story. Do some baking and practice
measuring. You were your child’s first teachers, so
remember ‘you’ve got this’!
For our families who do not have access to technology your
packs are available for collection from the front office. We
will advise when this can occur for the next packs, both on
Facebook and by email early next week. Remember that
we are not asking you to be a teacher, just to supervise
your childs’ learning.
Thank you for supporting our new school access rules
to keep our school community safe
Parents have been supportive of my decision to not allow
access to our school site. This is to assist us with social
distancing recommendations from the government and
reducing the risk of contamination with less people on site.
I feel our future students will be learning about 2020 in our
history books in years to come.
ANZAC DAY
We have uploaded a link of our
Anzac Day power point in your
child’s class One Note. Can I
encourage you to spend time
working through this to celebrate
the spirit of ANZAC with your
whole family. I have also included
a link to the state library with more resources for you.

Community Inclusion with Kippa
We would like to thank the Kippa-Ring Shopping Centre
Management for their care package for staff.
“To the staff at Kippa-Ring State School, thank you for your
bravery in continuing to turn up every day for the kids in
our community. We are so grateful for you and all your
hard work during these tough times. Enjoy these gifts!
Warm regards, Kippa-Ring Shopping Centre”.
Staff were very humbled that our local shopping centre has
recognised our work with students, which allows our
community to stay at work. These gifts are all items I could
never spend taxpayers’ money on so we are extremely
grateful for their kind words and well wishes. I know I am
enjoying making myself a latte each morning and have
even managed to show staff how to operate our new
coffee machine. Don’t worry, I will not be giving up my day
job any time soon, ha ha.
These community connections are what we at Kippa want
to explore and build further on in the future, once these
unprecedented times start to change. Please ensure you all
continue to follow government recommendations to help
keep our Kippa community safe from COVID-19.
Until next time, keep safe.
Regards
Lindy-lou Brown, Principal
DEPUTY PRINCIPAL NEWS
Welcome back! Well… sort of.
What a strange world we live in at the moment and I want to praise all our families for doing your part in helping our community stay safe. My personal motto for Term 2 is “Be patient, be respectful and be flexible”. This whole experience is strange for all of us and we’d love everything to be back to normal as soon as possible. Until then, we are working extra vigilantly to keep safe, healthy and follow the government directives. You can do your part too by keeping home unless absolutely necessary.
Attendance:
We have received a directive from the Department of Education, stating that parents/caregivers are required to do a daily ‘check in’ with the class teacher. Your child’s teacher is providing multiple ways for you to do this; email, phone call, dojo. Students, whose parents/caregivers do not check in daily, will be recorded as having an ‘unexplained’ absence from schooling.
The Internet:
The Internet is slow and glitchy as many parts of the world moves to home-based learning. Be patient. If you can’t log on to the OneNote at 9am, try later in the day. We will keep you updated on Facebook and by email with any information we receive.
Keep healthy, keep safe and keep home learning happening.

SCHOOL PHOTOS
School Photo Day for 2020 has been POSTPONED.
Advancedlife has sent through the following message:
“As a result of the widespread impact of COVID-19 and
schools experiencing significantly reduced student
attendance or closure, we unfortunately have had to pause
the operation of our photographic branches and customer
service areas until schools resume and all students have
returned to school.”
We will notify you all once we have all returned to school,
and some normalcy, of the new date.

PLAYGROUP CANCELLED!
For the safety of our children, parents and staff, Playgroup
remains closed. At this stage we are unsure when we will
be starting up again. Once we have received the
confirmation to go ahead, we will let you know.
CAMP MAPLETON
Unfortunately, our Year 5 and Year 6 three day school
camp which was to be held at Camp Mapleton, in the
hinterland of the Sunshine Coast this year, in Term 3, is no
longer going ahead.
Camp Mapleton informed us of their decision to cancel
camp for 2020.
Year 5/6 Camp in 2021 will be a ‘beach’ camp, and will be
held at Currimundi on the Sunshine Coast in March, next
year. Expression of interest forms will be sent home,
hopefully in Term 3 to all Year 4 and 5 students.
OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE
Helping Hands Network has joined the Kippa-Ring State
School community to deliver onsite Outside School Hours
Care – before school, after school as well as during school
holiday periods and staff development days.
It is a licencing requirement that any child using the service must be enrolled. As there is no fee to enrol with Helping Hands, it is recommended that all children are enrolled so that the service is available for your family, even if only on an emergency needs basis.
You can enrol online through the parent portal at
www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au
INTERSCHOOL SPORT
As reported at the end of Term 1, the Interschool Sport
program for selected students in Years 5 & 6, was cancelled
for the remainder of Term 1. Unfortunately, due to the
Government’s decision to continue schooling via the online
learning platform for the next five weeks, Interschool Sport
will not be continuing this semester.
Students who have paid for this activity in full ($50) have
been sent home a “Request for Refund” form in the mail
this week. Please read, fill out and return the form to the
Office so that we can start processing your refund.
As students had already attended one session of
Interschool Sport, and we had to cover the cost of the bus
for travel to and from the venues, the amount that will be
refunded is $44.00.
If you do not receive a form in the mail, and have paid in
full for Interschool sport, please contact the office on 3897
5333.
PARENT’S & CITIZEN’S ASSOCIATION
Due to the current restrictions, the Tuckshop and Uniform
Shop is closed temporarily until further notice.
Students attending school during this period will not be
able to access the Tuckshop. Please ensure that they bring
their food, for both breaks to school on the days that they
attend.
Thank you for your understanding. Keep safe and healthy.
