Automation Update

Sirsi Workflows Upgrade over summer! If WF installed under (each) user login to the computer, library staff member can do update. If unsure how installed, ask school or district tech support to uninstall, remove Sirsi folders, and reinstall under each user login to the computer.

RDA – Resource Description and Access

Just getting started Will make our library metadata more user

focused, more globally-minded, and more easily used

Includes changes in terminology, formatting, and the addition of some MARC fields

Catalog records will remain in MARC (for awhile)Transition to RDA will be a function of SIRSI

integration

Automation Update

For Now:AACR2 RDA Cataloging:Some vendors are offering RDA compliant MARC recordsFor the time being, stick with AACR2, until notified otherwise

Automation Update

Discussion:The INFOhio Videos and eBooks can be included

in the OPAC search results by default. This is currently available only at the ITC level.

(District-level is a future enhancement.)Suggestion: activate the option and see how it

goes. Thoughts?

Automation Update

Reading Level Report TipTake the reading level search syntax from the

OPAC and use it within Workflows to: Search for items via the Item Search/Display wizard Generate a CAT: Shelflist Report of items matching

the OPAC search criteriaWorks for Lexiles, Accelerated Reader, and

Reading Counts

Reading Level Report

Lexile example:From the OPAC Reading level search, enter the desired scores

Reading Level Report

Copy the syntax that appears above the search results

Reading Level Report

Paste the search syntax into the Item Search/Display wizard within Workflows

Remove the “ ”, select the General Index and Keyword Search Type

Reading Level Report

Generate a CAT: Shelflist report (INFOhio tab)Recommendation: add the search criteria in the

Report Title so that it displays in the header of the finished report

Reading Level Report

Paste the search syntax into the search string tab/field, again removing the “ ”

Enter the library on the Item Selection tab

Select Output Options as desired Brief/Long = RTF Spreadsheet = Plain Text

Reading Level Report

Add other search terms as desired

Reading Level Report

If you have added a search term, remove both the “ ” and any occurrences of “keyword” from the search syntax

use this same, cleaned-up syntax for the shelflist search string

Reading Level Report

Similar to the above, for Accelerated Reader, if entering reading levels and points, remove the “ ” and any occurrences of “keyword” from the search syntax to use in Item Search/Display

Reading Level Report

The Accelerated Reader example above becomes a bit trickier in the CAT: Shelflist reportTake the syntax which has already been cleaned

up from the OPAC (“ ” and keyword removed)Remove ACCELERATED READER SAME from the

beginningTack ‘and Accelerated Reader’ onto the end

Reading Level Report

So this...

becomes this...

{READPROG}>=060<=080 SAME {READPROG}>=10075<=10080 AND Accelerated Reader

Full disclosure: The above may not always match the OPAC results 100%, but it is reasonably close.
