Definition of Leave

Leave

As defined by: 10 U.S.C. 701:

The authorized absence of a member from a place of duty,

chargeable against such member

Types of Leave

-Earned (accrued) Leave-Chargeable Leave

-Non Chargeable Leave-Leave Subject to Checkage

Earned (accrued) Leave

Leave accrued to a member’s credit as of any

given date. Includes:-Minus Leave Credit-Excess Leave-Ordinary Accrual Limit-Special Accrual Limit

Earned (accrued) Leave

Ordinary Accrual Limit-60 days MAX at the end of the FY, except in case of Special Accrual.-1 October 2008 through 30 September 2013 a member’s earned or accrued leave; 75 days MAX at the end of the FY…

Earned (accrued) Leave

Special Accrual Limit

Is for personnel authorized special leave accrual up to 120 days, while assigned to duty

under special circumstances, as defined in MILPERSMAN 1050-

Chargeable Leave

Includes:-Annual (ordinary) Leave-Emergency Leave-Advance Leave

Chargeable Leave

Annual (ordinary) Leave

Term used to describe leave granted in execution of a command’s leave program

Chargeable Leave

Emergency Leave

Term used to describe leave granted in execution for a

personal or family emergency requiring the member’s

presence.

Chargeable Leave

Advance Leave

Term used to describe leave granted prior to its accrual to the member’s leave account,

based on a reasonable expectation that it will be

earned by the member during the remaining period of

obligated ACDU.

Non Chargeable Leave

Includes:-Convalescent Leave-Graduation Leave-Adoption Leave-Paternity Leave

Non Chargeable Leave

Convalescent Leave

Period of authorized absence granted to persons while under medical care and treatment as

part of the treatment

Non Chargeable Leave

Graduation Leave

Period of authorized absence granted as a delay in reporting

to the first duty station.-Naval Academy graduates

Non Chargeable Leave

Adoption Leave

Period of authorized absence up to 21 days granted to a

servicemember who adopts a child under a qualifying

adoption.

Non Chargeable Leave

Paternity Leave

Period of authorized absence up to 10 days granted to a servicemember whose wife

gives birth to a child.

MILPERSMAN 1050 - 010

Special Leave Accrual

Eligibility

When:

-Members on AD 120 days continuously-entitled to hostile fire or imminent danger pay

Eligibility

Then:

member is authorized up to 120 days earned leave

Eligibility

When:

serving in a deployable ship, mobile unit, or similar duty

Eligibility

And:

Operates away from its designated home port or home base for a continuous period of

at least 60days

Eligibility

Then:

member are eligible for special leave accrual

Verification

Personnel who believe they are eligible for special leave

accrual should declare their eligibility to their CO/ OIC
