TRANSCRIPT

Nathan Sawaya

Nathan Sawaya was a successful corporate lawyer who gave up a six-figure salary for the Legos he loved as a child.

Success didn’t come easy – the art world didn’t take his Lego sculptures seriously at first - but now his work can be seen in museums and fine art galleries, and is often commissioned by companies, institutions and individuals.

His latest creation is the unveiling of two half-scale Lego replicas of The New York Public Library’s centennial celebration.

JIM LAMBIE Lambie says, “You put a record on and it’s

like all the edges disappear. You’re in a psychological space. You don’t sit there thinking about the music, you’re listening to the music. You’re inside that space that the music’s making for you.”

Since 1999, the Glasgow-based artist Jim Lambie has used glossy tape in varying colors to build floor installations.

The vinyl tape, an everyday material applied in continuous lines, has a capacity to transform the dynamics of space, changing a quiet gallery space into an energetic and emotional space of sensory pleasure.
