What is Music?
It is an art of combining sounds of varying pitch to
produce a coherent composition that is
melodious, harmonious, intelligible and expressive
of ideas and emotions.
Elements
Pitch
It is the relative highness or lowness of a tone.
Volume or Intensity
Volume is the loudness or softness of a sound. It ranges from the very soft (pianissimo) and soft (piano) to very loud (fortissimo) and loud (forte). The volume is louder when a singer belts out compared to the volume when he simply whispers.
TEMPO
Is the speed of a composition or any of its sections. Ballads have a slow tempo, whereas
dance songs have a fast rate
DURATION
Is the length of time during which a sound is produced.
TIMBRE OR TONE COLOR
Is the quality of sound that makes it distinct from other sounds
Is the consistent pattern or succession of identical or similar sounds.
RHYTHM
MELODY
Is the series consecutive tones that vary in pitch and duration but form a line of individual significance and expressive value. It is an orderly succession of tones of musical sounds.
HARMONY
Is the simultaneous sounding of two or more tones. When three or mores are sounded simultaneously, there exists a chord.
TEXTURE
Is the number of tones expected to be apprehended simultaneously

ROMANTIC PERIOD
During the Romantic Period , music became more expressive and emotional. Such were the compositions of the famous early Romantic composers, including Schumann, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Bellini, and Berlioz.
MODERN PERIOD
A revolution in music listening occurred as the radio gained popularity worldwide and new media and technologies were developed to record, capture, reproduce, and distribute music.
Music today is no longer limited to concerts and clubs inasmuch as the almost obsolete cassette tape, the CD, the VCD, the DVD, the MP3, the MP4, and the computer are media generating music.
