Daily Parking
The beginning and end of the school day are busy
times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
You can help keep children safe by remembering
the following:
Drop your child off and pick them up on the
school side of the road
Never call out to them from across the road - it
is very dangerous
Always take extra care in 40km school zones
Follow all parking signs - these keep your child
as safe as possible
Park responsibly even if it means you have to
walk further to the school gate
Never double park - it is illegal and puts
children at risk
Never do a U-turn or a three point turn outside
the school as it puts children at risk of harm
Model safe and considerate pedestrian and
driver behaviours to your child
Always give way to pedestrians particularly
when entering and leaving driveways.
Wollumbin HS Transition Visit
Next Monday, 26th February, Ms Karen Connell,
Principal of Wollumbin High School, along with Ms
Nicole Thornton, the 2019 Yr 7 Year Advisor will be
visiting our Year 5 & 6 students to give them an
idea of life at Wollumbin High School. Parents are
more than welcome to attend as well. The 30min
visit will begin at 12:30pm.
Murwillumbah HS Transition Visit
Then, next Thursday, Mr Luke Bristow, Deputy
Principal of Murwillumbah High School, along with
Mr Michael Thomas, 2019 Year Advisor, will visit our
Year 5 & Year 6 students. Again, parents are
welcome to attend. This visit begins at 2:15pm.
District Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all our swimmers for their
outstanding efforts last Friday. Overall, the carnival
was narrowly won by Pottsville Beach PS (9 points),
with MEPS finishing in second place.
We did, however, have 3 age champions: Zane
Bowen, Tyrone Woods & Lomani Newman.
Congratulations to these students along with the
many other students who will join them at
competing in the Far North Coast carnival on
Wednesday 28th February.
School Calendar
Please remember to check our school calendar at
the end of this newsletter, it is consistently
updated each week.
Have a great week!

Sweetheart Day
Our SRC (Student Representative Council) would
like to say a HUGE thank you to all of MEPS for
supporting the HEART FOUNDATION to raise
much-needed funds to provide support for Aussie
kids with childhood heart disease as well as fund
vital medical research.
All students were encouraged
to wear red and donate a gold
coin to this important cause.
Money raised on the day was $319.
We greatly appreciate your support.

The Big Vegie Crunch
On Thursday 1st March at 11.15am our school will
be joining hundreds of schools across NSW to
break the record for the most students crunching
vegetables simultaneously.
But we need your help to make

crunch on.
Need some ideas?
carrot, celery, cucumber - cut into sticks or left

capsicum - cut into sticks or wedges
corn - raw baby corn spears or a cooked corn
cob
broccoli or cauliflower florets - raw or lightly
cooked to keep their crunch
tomatoes - small cherry tomatoes or a large to-
mato that can be eaten like an apple
beans or snow peas - raw or lightly cooked to
keep their crunch
mushrooms - sliced or left whole
If you require more information on The Big Vegie
Crunch, please contact our school or your child’s
teacher.

Year 7 LEAP into High School!
Our Year 7 students have had an excellent start to the year. The students have had the challenge of
collaborating to design the layout of their own classrooms with brand new furniture. The end result
looks fantastic. It is pleasing to see how well everyone has settled into the ‘big school’ both
academically and socially. The cohort are the first group of students to engage with our specific STEM
classes. The next big adventure is Year 7 Camp at Lake Ainsworth.
You can hear our Year 7 talk about their experiences on the Murwillumbah High School Facebook Page

Other news
Concert Band has re-commenced for the year with some of our local Primary School students joining
for rehearsals on Wednesday mornings
Students received some outstanding HSC results for the 2017 in Music, Drama, Extension English
and Entertainment.
All of our Senior Boys Volleyball team has been selected to represent the North Coast in the State
Volleyball competition to be held later this term. An amazing achievement!
Mr Howes our Principal, Mr Bristow, Deputy Principal and Mr Thomas our Year Advisor will be visiting
Year 6 students at their schools on the 1st, 2nd and 5th March. We are looking forward to meeting everyone.
