- that which relates to audible sound

Just because you speak (especially as a teacher/instructor), it does not mean that you have been heard.

(Just think of all the times you have asked a question - only to get a blank stare !!!)

It is the line from a Christmas carol, but it can also point to the nature of hearing.

the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens.

You consciously choose to listen.

It requires concentration to process for meaning.

Why use audio in learning?

Things to consider for audio in learning

1. Learners can read faster than you can speak.

2. When you have text and audio carrying an identical message, the media will fight with each other and the learner will lose. (Closed-captioning and audio on !!!!)

3. Major “faux pas” when using audio: • Read the bullets that are on the screen,

ask learner to click next, repeat until learner passes out.

4. Keep audio in e-learning of high quality• Keep it to 30 seconds if you can • Keep it sounding natural- no odd delays or edits • Keep the volume consistent between clips
