Migration into the UK
Key Question:
What makes people undertake long and dangerous journeys to the UK?
Learning Objectives:
• To be able to interpret evidence and draw conclusions.
• To understand what motivates immigrants to undertake journeys.
STARTER
There is a mystery to solve. In October 2005, Stan Bowden, a long distance lorry driver ran over a body as he drove into a motorway service station.
Whose body was it and why was it there?
Main Task
Work with a partner to solve the mystery. Using Activity sheet 5 sort through the pieces of evidence and try to find links between them.
You can rearrange the statements to help you reconstruct the story.
Extension Task
Using a blank World Map – find the UK and Vietnam.
One part of the mystery that was never solved was Ky’s route from Vietnam to the UK. Plot a possible overland route he could have taken, labelling the countries he would have travelled through.
