Membership requirements have sunset provision of September 1, 2015

No training or experience requirements for VCA program key personnel

The Problem

• Establish objective credentialing, training, and experience requirements for medical and surgical leaders involved in VCA transplantation

• Promote patient safety by ensuring medical and surgical leaders meet minimum requirements

• Enhance accountability to the OPTN

Goal of the Proposal

VCA program must:

Complete an application for: Upper Limb Head and Neck Abdominal Wall Other VCAs not commonly performed

Identify the following key personnel: Program Director Primary Transplant Physician Primary Transplant Surgeon

Transplant hospitals need to complete and submit formal application created by UNOS staff

Re-apply for OPTN membership

Key personnel need to meet OPTN membership criteria in effect at the time of the program’s application

What Members will Need to Do

The MPSC will review these VCA applications and may offer interim approval

Final review and approval for a VCA program by the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors
