The GED file can be attached to an email in the same way as you would attach a picture.

I suspect that the GED file was “printed” by Family Historian, and the A4 print size was too

small to be viewed comfortably.

The GED file can be loaded into any (most?) FH programmes. There are free ones available.. eg

Downloading one of these will let Ron’s sister browse the data comfortably.

Normally one would use the offered default format… but occasionally you want something different.A warning. You have to know what the different formats are, and how they are identified (by their extensions.

How are file extensions used?

1. Google is case insensitive2. Use 32 search terms or fewer3. Use “quotation marks” to keep quotes

together4. Don’t use stop words – these are ignored.

Stop words are “the”, “be”, “or”, “from”, “about” etc.If you MUST have stop words use quotes or the inclusion operator “+”

5. Use the Exclusion operator (-). Egpalm –hand will give trees

6. Use the Wildcard operator (*). Eg“brave new *”

7. Use the Fuzzy operator (~). For synonyms. Egrecipe ~meat

8. Use numbers to get lists. Eg100 famous *

9. Avoid: words with opposite meanings. Egfast, root

10.Avoid: words with multiple meanings. Egbow, desert, object, refuse

11.Filetype: restrict output to certain file types“windows versions” filetype:ppt

12. info: Show info about a specific URL

13. Site: only search within the specified site. Eg“mike farquhar” site:www.thornburyu3a.org.uk
