• Always remember there are three sides to every story : side 1, side 2, and the truth

• Most important things are ethics and professionalism

Social Media

Do’s and Don’ts of Social Media

• DO… • Update daily • Promote upcoming events• Personalize it - put a face to a

name DON’T…• Be inappropriate - no profanity,

"Grandma" rule• Use proper grammar• Know your subject - do some

research

Silence

• Often more harmful than helpful• Don't think your silence will kill story• Give reporter explanation

Controversial Topics

• Explain your group's stance• Let reporter know if you aren't

proper contact• Understand laws, both your

privacy and public's right to know if public/government agency involved.

Build Relationships

• Get to know people in related fields (both meaning of fields applicable)

• Know the big players in local media

• See how your role is handled in other towns, regions and states.
