Purpose
To know how to use a steam turbine and how would it be used in real life. How could the steam turbine help people in reality.
Hypothesis I think the boiling water would splash on
the wheel and the wheel would be pushed and it would turn.
Materials
1.Card board(2)2.Tape3.Can4.Pencil5.Scissors6.Water7.Straw8.Paper
Procedure1.Have all materials.2.Punch ONE hole to each piece of card board.3.Stick the pieces of card board face to face on the
can.4.Cut a circle out of the paper and cut another small
circle in the middle of the other circle.5.Put the straw into the circle.6.Put the straw(with the circle) into the holes of the
card board.7.Put water in your can and start heating up your can.
Results and Observations
Suddenly, the wheel started moving!
We heated up the steam turbine.
Results and Observations (2)During the experiment, I observed that
there were smoke coming out from the can, I knew it right away that it was steam because it was going up, the steam was the thing that made the wheel move or turn.
Conclusion
In this experiment, I learnt that when water is heated it would evaporate, creating steam. This type of energy goes up to the wheel, making the wheel starting to spin. My hypothesis was almost correct, but it wasn’t really realistic about the splashing water.
Big Idea
The steam turbine is used in real life by heating water to make steam so the factory could produce electricity, if there were no steam turbines, we wouldn’t have enough electricity for lights,Computers, TVs……
