Today, we will be revisiting our knowledge of fractions.

I can identify the fraction of the shape which is shaded.

I can identify a fraction of a number.

In today’s lesson, you will see the following traffic light stars:

There are 2 tasks today, you do not need to do them all, please challenge yourself as much as you can.

I do not feel confident, I am going to practise this some more.

I feel confident, I am going to complete this independently

We have not looked at fractions in a little while, so we are going to recap them.

Task 1Can you write the fraction of the shape which is shaded.

Some of the fractions have equivalent fractions.

I do not feel

confident yet so I will try these:

____

____

____

Let’s Learn!The whole

One part

There are 4 parts in the whole. I can see the 4 parts but I can also see that we are

dividing the whole into quarters.

Let’s Learn!

Complete this:

Let’s Learn! We do not know what the whole is.

We need to multiply the 8 counters we have by the 4 parts that they are in to work out the whole.

8 x 4 = 32

The whole

5of 35

Divide 35 by 5, using my knowledge of multiplication and division.

I will get 7. One fifth of 35 is 7.

To get two fifths, I need to multiply 7 by 2

Then I get 14.

This is non-unit fraction. Which means the numerator is larger than 1 part. This fraction asks for two fifths.

Let’s Learn!

3

4of 48

Divide 48 by 4, using my knowledge of multiplication and division.

I will get 12. One quarter of 48 is 12.

To get two quarters, I need to multiply 12 by 3

Then I get 36.

This is non-unit fraction. Which means the numerator is larger than 1 part. This fraction asks for 3 quarters.

Task 2Use your place value knowledge to answer these questions.

I feel confident, I am going to complete this independently

What have we learnt today?

Sixteen Aliens visit earth. Twelve of them are green. What fraction are not

green?

____ or ____
