Introduction A school-‐sponsored, parent-‐run program for current 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
Goals: Foster an interest in math and have fun! Broaden math skills and learn new concepts. Gain experience in math contests.

Math Olympiad http://www.moems.org/
Math problem solving contests for teams of up to 35 students in grades 4-‐8.
Open to schools, home schools, and institutes.
Created in 1977 by Dr. George Lenchner, an internationally known math educator.
In 2014, nearly 150,000 students from 6,000 teams worldwide participated in the Olympiad.
Forty-‐nine of 50 states and 30 countries were represented.

Timeline Information Meeting: May 14
Online registration
Mandatory parent-‐coach training: Tuesday, May 19 or Thursday, May 21 from 7:15-‐8:00
Student training starts May 26
MOEMS Team Registration: June 30, 2015
Summer Plan: Review materials individually or with small groups
MOEMS Contests: November, December, January, February, March; once per month

Possible Extensions Math Counts
A “bee-‐style” contest in which students compete against and alongside other bright, motivated students.
AMC 8 Goals:
Provide students with problem solving experience Promote excitement, enthusiasm, and positive attitudes toward mathematics
Noetic Math Goals:
Encourage students’ interest in math Develop their problem solving skills Inspire them to excel in math
