A welcome message from the AHF

It is my great pleasure to welcome all participants, athletes, and officials, as well as all spectators, to the Masters Indoor World Cup 2019, hosted at the Hong Kong Football Club.

Not only is this event a milestone as the first ever Indoor World Cup for Masters athletes, but also, with 26 participating teams from all over the globe, further evidence of the growth and rising popularity of the Masters age group competitions in our beloved sport.

The indoor discipline has been growing steadily and celebrated a tremendous success last year with the Indoor Hockey World Cup in Berlin with close to 30.000 spectators over five days creating an incredible atmosphere for athletes from all continents, and it is a delight to see indoor hockey being embraced by the Masters community as well now.

On behalf of the Asian Hockey Federation, I want to express our gratefulness to all volunteers and members of the Organizing Committee of this Masters Indoor World Cup for taking on the formidable challenge of planning and delivering an event of this size and scope and for bringing a Masters event to an Asian country. I am certain they have made every effort to guarantee a successful tournament and make this a fantastic experience for the hundreds of participants as well as all involved.

Finally, I would like to wish all participating teams and officials good luck, much success, and most of all, an enjoyable and memorable experience with friends and the hockey family at this Masters Indoor World Cup and in the amazing metropolis of Hong Kong.

His Majesty Al Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah President AHF

A message from the IMHAIt is my very great pleasure to welcome our friends from all over the world to Hong Kong (SAR), for the first WMH Indoor Hockey World Cup, second IMHA Indoor World Cup.

I was privileged to play in the IMHA Tournament in Hong Kong in November 2009. The members and staff of the Hong Kong Football Club treated players and officials from all over the world, as honoured guests, and the hospitality was second to none. The IMHA Board was therefore delighted to award this prestigious tournament to Hong Kong, in full confidence that this would be another unforgettable tournament.

Hong Kong is diverse in culture and population. It is a modern, vibrant and dynamic metropolis which never tires of redevelopingitself. Yet, the people and administrators are mindful and respectful of the cultural and historical traditions which built it. In that regard, Hong Kong and Masters Hockey share a number of similarities. Both were created by determined individuals who had a vision of their potential, and in their wisdom, recognised that a truly international outlook was the key to success.

At this Indoor World Cup, we will witness a standard of performance and skill level which will surprise the uninitiated. The keenly contested matches will excite spectators and demonstrate yet again, just how the camaraderie and mutual respect generated by these tournaments, strengthens the bonds which unite the Hockey Family. We will all contribute to that special Hockey Family feel good factor. We will also enjoy watching the world’s elite hockey players defy their age.

On behalf of the IMHA and the fledgling WMH, I would like to express my thanks to the Hong Kong Hockey Association, the Hong Kong government and local authorities, the Hong Kong Football Club and everyone else who has made this tournament possible. Ialso wish all the squads, umpires, officials and supporters an enjoyable and successful tournament and I look forward to meeting up with as many of you as is possible over the period of the event.
