AsanMAgraduate,youwillpossessin-depthknowledgeoftheEnglishlanguageandahighlinguisticcompetence–inspeakingaswellasinwriting.Youwillbeabletoindependentlyandcriticallyassessandanalysetextsandotherculturalartefactsandyouwillalsobetrainedindescribingandevaluatingculturalphenomenaandstructures,usingasophisticatedsetoftheoriesandmethods.Youwillbefamiliarwithanglophoneculturesandhaveskillsthatenableyoutoworkinjobsthatfocusonculturalmediationandinternationalcommunication.

Amongyourfutureprofessionalareasarepublishinghouses,literaryinstitutionsandculturalorganisations.Youmayworkinjournalism,PRormarketing,inadulteducationortourism.GoodorverygoodMAgraduatesmaycontinuetheiracademiccareerbyenrollingforaPhDprogrammeandjoiningtheBambergGraduateSchoolofLiterary,CulturalandMediaStudies(BaGraLCM).

Youcoverfourareasofstudy–linguistics,literaryandculturalstudiesandlanguageproficiency.Youthusgainadiverseandin-depthknowledgeoftheEnglishlanguage,itsstructuresaswellasitsvarietiesthroughoutanglophonecultures.Apartfromafocusoninterdisciplinaryresearchandculturalstudies,ourprogrammeconcentratesonthehistoricaldevelopmentoftheEnglishlanguage,itsliteraturesandcultures.Withmorethan250partneruniversitiesin60countries,theUniversityofBambergisaninternationalone.Youwillbeencouragedtostudyonesemesterabroad,ideallyinoneofourpartneruniversitiesintheUK,theUSA,CanadaorAustralia.AtBamberg,youwillstudyinaversatileprogrammethattrainsyouracademic,communicativeandculturalcompetence,preparingyouforavarietyofdifferentprofessions.

Programme Structure

Threemastermodulesintheareasoflinguistics,literarystudiesandculturalstudiesarethebackboneforallsubsequentcourses.Later,youhavetheopportunitytofocusoneitheroneortwooftheseareasofstudy.Thelanguageproficiencycoursesaremeanttoimproveyourreading,writingandspeakingskillsinEnglish.Additionally,youcantakecoursesfromanothersubjectofyourchoicetaughtattheUniversityofBamberg.

Extra-curricular activitiesWithfellowstudentsfromallovertheworld,youwillfinditeasytoconnectwithothers.Inourworkshops,youcanpracticeyourEnglishinnon-academiccontexts:forourcreativewritingworkshops,weinviteauthorsortheatrepractitioners.OurownBambergUniversityEnglishDramaGroup(BUEDG)invitesstudentstotakepartinimprovisedactingworkshopsandregularlystagesplays.

Profile

TheEuropeanJointMaster‘sDegreeinEnglishandAmericanStudiesisaninternationaldegreeissuedbyBambergandfiveotheruniversitiesinGraz,NewYork,Paris,PécsandVenice.Theuniversitiesintheconsortiumworktogethertoprovideahighqualityinternationalcurriculumwithregionalaspects.Studentsthatchoosethisprogrammestudyonesemesteratoneofthepartneruniversity.AftersuccessfulcompletionofthefullprogrammestudentswillbeawardedthejointMAdegreeofthesixcoremembersoftheconsortiumidentifyingthecorrespondingequivalentpercountry,andreceiveadiplomasupplement.Forthisdegree,specialapplicationrequirementsapply.

Special Programme: European Joint Master‘s Degree
