OUR PARISH MISSION: By the grace of God, we, the people of the Roman Catholic Parish of Saint Frances Cabrini, firmly rooted in the Apostolic Tradition of the Church and the Holy Scriptures, are called to continue the mission of Jesus Christ to build up the Kingdom of God in the world through our faithful living according to His

teachings, our proclamation of the Gospel by word and deed, and the worship of God in our private prayer as well as in our public celebration of the Sacraments. We have the strength for everything through Him

who empowers us!

REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

O ur Easter refrain begins today, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad! Christ is

risen, truly risen and we are witnesses to God’s glorious deeds. We cele- brate the Lord’s Resurrection, as the Body of Christ, in union with our brothers and sisters through- out the world. We begin our cele- bration of Easter with the Holy Vigil where we gather around the fire to light our Paschal Candle, we bless the waters of Baptism, re- new our Baptismal Promises and share the Banquet of new life. The darkness of the night gives way to the dawn of rejoicing as we go to the tomb with Mary of Magdala and Peter and John to see the empty tomb and the burial cloths there. With them we see and believe for we under-stand the Scriptures that Jesus had to rise from the dead. Let the power of this holy day lead us to witness to the Resurrection for the life of the world.

Easter Love On Easter we celebrate love,

love coming down from heaven, love blanketing the earth

in a transforming embrace; unique and infinite love,

giving more than we can imagine for us, to cleanse our sin,

a perfect sacrifice, Lamb of God, the walking, talking Word.

He is teacher, role model, friend, this God in human form,

dying, then rising from the dead, proving all who believe

will also rise to have eternal life, with Him,

Lord of all. Oh, Happy, Happy Easter!

E aster, which celebrates Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, is our most important holyday. It is

a moveable feast because it doesn't fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do. The Roman Catholic Church, following the Gregorian Calendar, celebrates Easter on the first Sunday, following the full moon after the vernal equinox on March 21st. Therefore, Easter is observed anywhere between March 22nd and April 25th every year. Orthodox Christians use the Julian cal-endar to calculate when Easter will occur and typically celebrate the holyday a week or two after ours. The exact origins of this religious feast day's name are unknown. Some sources claim the word Easter is de-rived from Eostre, a Teutonic goddess of spring and fer-tility. Other accounts trace Easter to the Latin term heb-domada alba, or white week, an ancient refer- ence to Easter week and the white clothing donned by people who were baptized during that time. Through a translation error, the term later appeared as esostarum in Old High Ger-man, which eventually be-came Easter in English. In Ital-ian, Easter is known as Pasqua; in Spanish, Pascua; in French, Paques. These words are de- rived from the Greek and Lat- in Pascha or Pasch, for Pass- over. Jesus' cru-cifixion and resurrection oc-curred after he went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover (or Pesach in Hebrew), the Jewish festival commemorat-ing the Israelites' exodus from slavery in Egypt. Pascha eventually came to mean Easter.

E aster is really an entire season of the Church Year, We have just finished Lent, the 40-day period lead-

ing up to Easter Sunday, which has been a time of re-flection and penance and represented the 40 days that Jesus spent alone in the wilderness before starting his ministry, a time in which Jesus survived various temp-tations by the devil. The week preceding Easter is Holy Week and includes the Triduum (the three days) Holy Thursday, which commemorates Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples; Good Friday, which honors the day of his crucifixion and Holy Saturday, which focuses on the transition between the crucifixion and resurrection. The week of Easter is called the Octave of Easter which begins the Great 50 Days of the Easter Season. The Oc-tave ends with Divine Mercy Sunday. Included in the Easter Season is the celebration of Jesus' Ascension into Heaven (40 days) and the conclusion of Easter on the 50th day, Pentecost.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY: (Next weekend)

In 2000 our Holy Father, Saint Pope John Paul II, proclaimed to the world, that “from now on through-out the Church this Sunday will be called Divine Mercy Sunday”. The occasion was the Mass for the canoniza-tion of Sister Faustina Kowalska, known as the “Apostle of Divine Mercy”. Her deep interior faith revealed to her and ultimately the world, the limitless Mercy of Jesus
