DESCRIPTION

The Marykirk Raft Race is a charity fundraising raft race down the North Esk, on the third sunday of May each year. This year, just over £7,000 was raised for Charity. This presentation shows the winners, the rafts, and most importantly, where the charity money has been donated.

So what’s it all about

•We raise money for Charity by:

•Having a good fun day

•Racing rafts down the river

•Going to the Marykirk Park afterwards for more fun

We’ve been doing this for a while

•Ran since the mid-nineties

•Third year since the hiatus

Charity Disbursement

•We raise money for Charity

•And then we give:

•One quarter to CHAS – Aberdeen

•One quarter to Carronhill School, Stonehaven

•One half to local organisations and charities

CHAS• Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) is a

Scottish charity established to provide hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

• A children’s hospice offers professional care, practical help and emotional support to the whole family usually from the day of acceptance, to the death of their child, and beyond.

• Recently, they have opened a branch in Aberdeen and we thought it sensible to support them

CARRONHILL SCHOOL

•There are several children in the area who attend Carronhill school

•They are raising funds for a new bus and running costs

•Our support will help them significantly

•Support is not divided completely evenly – Marykirk Hall ran a craft fair for us so get half of the extra money they raised plus their donation

•WRI organised a treasure hunt booth

•Bowling club ran the bottle stall
