• Born in Atlanta, Georgia • 1929—1968, American clergyman and civil rights leader • King organized the Southern Christian Leadership Conference

(SCLC)• On Apr. 4, 1968, he was shot and killed as he stood on the

balcony of the Lorraine Motel which was a 1991 a civil-rights museum.

• His birthday has become a national holiday, and is celebrated every year on the third Monday is January.

• Graduated from High School at age 15.• Attended Boston University and got PhD.

• Got married in 1953 to Coretta Scott had four kids.

• Receives BA in sociology from Morehouse College at age 19.

• In 1956 his house was bombed.
