Be Your Best
NAPLAN online
The National Assessment Program – Literacy
and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy
and numeracy skills that are essential for
every child to progress through school and
life. Students in years 3 & 5 will participate in
the annual NAPLAN test in reading, writing,
conventions of language (spelling,
grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
The testing window for NAPLAN online
testing this year will be from Tuesday May
11 and finishes on Friday May 21. The grade
3 writing test is the only pen and paper test
with the remaining being online. An
information brochure has been sent home
with information for parents and carers.
Prep Enrolments for 2022
We are now taking enrolments for prep
students in 2022. We would really
appreciate 2022 enrolments for siblings to
be completed as soon as practicable.
Enrolments forms are available from the
office or you can email myself or the school.
New Families
For those who would like a School Tour for
Prep 2022 we are holding these each
Wednesday at 9.15am. Please contact the
school to book a time for a tour.
Congratulations On Monday, Holly Batchelor had her head
shaved for ‘World’s Greatest Shave’. We are
very proud of her as this is a very brave thing to
do. Holly chose to raise money to support breast
cancer and raised $1422. What a fantastic
effort Holly!

April) at 10:30am. Once again, we will be making our ISPS Memorial Wall of
names of our students’ family members who have served in the war. If you have
added a name to the Memorial Wall in the past, it will be included again this
year and you don’t need to let me know. If you didn’t, or are new to the school
and would like to add a name, please email nadine.mcwilliams@education.vic.gov.au with the
name, the war they served in and the student’s name by the end of Term 1.
Thanks,

Once again this year, our Grade 5 & 6 students have the opportunity to develop their
self-awareness and leadership effectiveness through the Leaders of Evolution Program.
In Grade 5, all students complete the Foundation
course, giving them the background knowledge
they need to succeed as young leaders. The
Advanced course, completed by all grade 6
students, supports them to develop and apply
competence, confidence, character and
connectedness in their environment. Students in
grade 6 will investigate, research and deliver
community projects to positively impact others. The
first of the group projects for 2021 has commenced
with lunchtime activities each Monday and
Wednesday.
Irymple South Primary School Newsletter - Issue 7, Week 7, Term 1, 2021
On Wednesday, twelve Grade 6 students went
down to the Mildura Bowls Club to compete in the
Sunraysia Division Lawn Bowls competition. There
were four other schools who came to complete.
These teams were The Lake Primary, Mildura
South, Saint Pauls and Mildura
Primary. Our team all played
their best and overall we scored
20 points for the day. Thanks to
these efforts we were the overall
winners for the day and will now
be moving on to compete in
Swan Hill.
Yesterday 9 Grade 6 girls played cricket against
Nichols Point Primary School.
The scores were 175 to 50 our way. Our best player
was Eadie Neagle who got 32 runs. There was some
great wicket keeping from Eva A and really strong
bowling from Annabelle. All 9 of us had phenomenal
bowling, batting and fielding.
All the girls got a wicket when bowling and we will be progressing to the next round
which is in 2 weeks at Mildura. Overall we had a blast throughout the day and couldn’t
be more proud of the team. A big thanks to Mr Allen for your expertise in cricket and
your tips for us.
Yesterday the boy’s cricket team played against Nichols
Point. We played a T20 match that included some big hits,
awesome run outs and some clean catching. All players
contributed to the game with the bat, the ball or in the field.
Best contributors were: Ollie Cooper 29no, Max Bradshaw 2
wickets, Tyler Sleep 2 catches and a run
out. At the end of the day we came out winners and will now
progress to the Sunraysia Division Final. This will be played at the Aero
Ovals on Friday
26th March.

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and
sporting activities.
If you have a valid means-tested concession card, such as a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink
Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible.

school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions and sporting activities for the benefit of your
child.
If you applied for CSEF through our school last year, you do not need to complete an application form
this year, unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.
If you would like to apply for the first time, please come in to the school office and ask for an application
form.
You can also download the form, and find out more about the program and eligibility, on the
Department of Education and Training’s Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund web page.
Check with the school office if you are unsure, and please return completed forms to the school office by
the end of Term 1, Thursday 1st April.

SCIENCE with Mr Douglas
This week in Science, all of the students made their very own beeswax wrap. We can reduce the amount
of single use plastics, such as cling wrap, by using our home made beeswax wrap as an alternative. What
is awesome about these wraps, is that they can be reused over and over again! When the wax wears off
all you need to do is add some more wax.
The method is simple:
The students love their beeswax wraps and have
been using them already. It is great to see as this
will cut down on the amount of plastic being used
which will have a positive impact on our
environment.
Cut the fabric to what
size you want
•Place another sheet of baking
paper on top
•Carefully iron the melted wax so it
covers the fabric and then let it dry
Place it on some baking paper and
sprinkle some wax over the fabric
