On Thanksgiving Day in 1929, it costonly 6 cents for admission to the SaengerTheater movie place. Today, the 1000-seat Saenger has become a celebratedfixture in the heart of historic downtown,surrounded by an array of award-winning, locally-owned restaurants, allwithin walking distance.

One of only seven Saenger Theaters builtand operated throughout the South by theSaenger Brothers, Abe and Julian, theTheater was designed by New Orleansarchitect Emile Weile and is an exampleof Neo-Classical Revival Style and ArtDeco Style. It was placed on the NationalRegister of Historic Places in 1979. In2000, a $3.75 million renovation wascompleted, restoring much of theTheater’s grandeur. Its original 778-pipeRobert Morton Pipe Organ is one of thefew remaining organs of its kind in theUnited States and is a centerpiece for theTheater.
