Tips for Raffles

Keeptrackofwhoissellingticketsandhowmanyticketsareoutstanding.

Makesureticketsellersbringbackbooksof ‘sold’ ticketsandmoneyfromticket sales on a regular basis (weekly) so that there is not a lot of ticketmoneyoutstandingattheendoftheraffle.

Giveticketsalesmoneyto theTreasureronaregularbasisso thatcash isnotlyingaround.Keepallcash,notdeposited,inasafeplace.

Donotspendmoneyfromtheticketsalesforyourpersonaluse.Keepticketsalesmoney and your personalmoney separate. It is not uncommon forticketsellersto‘owe’therafflelargesumsofmoneywhenitistimetomaketheprizedraw.

Keepaccuraterecordsofticketsalesandrevenuethroughouttheraffleandsubmit that information with the Lottery Statement of Account after theraffle.

Final Tips

The profits from lotteries must be kept separate from other funds. Thisincludeskeepingseparaterecordsoflotteryfunds.

Lotteriescannotbeheldwithoutalicense.Ifyouarehostinganevent, makesure the license is posted in the building where the lottery is beingconducted(i.e.communityhall).

Keep backup documentation because auditors or Lottery Administratorsmayaskyoutoprovideit(keepfor2years).

Try toprovide some training for volunteers and staffworking the lottery, especiallyifcashhandlingorformsareinvolved.
