The 2014 Longue Vue Legacy Program
is designed to recognize the rich tradition of the Club
and reward the commitment and support of members
and their families.
Times change, but not the bonds of family or
the special times shared at Longue Vue.
The 2014 Legacy program is open to more
family members than ever before. Grandpar-
ents, parents, children, grandchildren, sib-
lings, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews are

that the Longue Vue tradition is also a family
tradition. This program is for a limited time.
Whether they have grown up at Longue Vue or visited, welcome them
home with incredible initiation values. (continued on page 2)

July is in the books and we are now approaching the dog days
of summer. The golf course is continuing to respond well to the ef-
fects of summer. The course played and held up well during the first
of the month with all the holiday festivities and both Club Champion-
ships before some much needed rain occurred during the third week.
The Greens Department spent much of the month in maintenance
mode with conducting daily tasks and handwatering during the after-
noon. We were able to spike or needle tine greens on each Monday to help relieve the
stress along with light topdressing to continue setting the foundation for healthy greens.
Setting the foundation will continue this month with our scheduled Fall Aerifica-
tion during the middle of the month, starting on August 12th. On that Tuesday morning,
the Greens staff will begin aerifying greens by pulling 1/2 inch cores followed by amend-
ing and topdressing. Once greens are completed, we plan to knock out tees. Additional
planned practices include verticutting and grooming tees and approaches along with
slicing fairways. We apologize for this brief interruption in conditions but believe that
conducting these practices are paramount to the success of the golf course both in the
present and future.
Congratulations to both of this year’s Club Champions, job well done. Best of
luck to the Diebold team during the first days of August and as always, we look forward
to seeing you on the course!

The Golf Committee has implemented a new discounted guest program for this sea-
son on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. The program runs like this… Members may
bring up to three guests after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays at a rate of $75.00 per
guest. This rate covers both the greens fees and the cart fees, for as many holes as you
can play. Obviously, tee times will be based on availability. Members who have the Be My
Guest program always have the option to use their passes instead of using the discounted
rate, just let the Pro Shop know if that is what you wish to do. This is a terrific way to enter-
tain and enjoy a game with friends, family and clients. It is the hope of the committee that
all our members take advantage of this new opportunity to show off our great club to their
guests. Stop by the Janssen Room afterwards for a drink or dinner.

Adjust Your Grip to Get Through the Round
Whether you are playing in a tournament, club event, or even a match
against your buddies, we have all experienced going to the practice
range before our round and spraying shots all over the range. Feeling
as though you have no control over the ball can be very scary before
heading to the first tee. Here is how to overcome that…
First, warm up with a purpose. Always use an alignment aid. Make
sure that your feet, knees, hips and shoulders are all parallel to your
intended target line. You may be making good swings, but aligning
your body incorrectly.
If you are setting up to the ball properly, adjust your grip to alter your
ball flight. If you are pushing or slicing the ball, rotate your hands
slightly so that the back of your lead hand is facing more towards the
sky. If you are pulling or hooking the ball, rotate your hands slightly so
that the back of your lead hand is facing more towards the target. See
the photos below.
Altering your grip may be much easier than attempting to make a swing
change before or even during a round. On the golf course your focus
should be playing golf; moving the golf ball from point A to point B. The
time to make swing changes is on the lesson tee under the supervision
of a PGA Professional.
For more golf instruction tips, please visit derekdejidas.com. To schedule a lesson with Derek, please call the Longue Vue Club Golf Professional Shop at (412) 793-2375.
GOLF TI PS FROM TH E P ROS BY DEREK DEJ IDAS , PGA
A neutral grip like this one should be the norm. But if your shots start to go crook-ed, don’t be afraid to try one of these…
A grip with the lead hand facing more towards the sky will help straighten out a push or slice.
A grip with the lead hand facing more towards the target will help straighten out a pull or hook.

Save the date! The 22nd F. C. Snyder Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Satur-
day, August 9th. Guests are welcome and the event is open to all members.
In 1993, Mrs. Pat Snyder started and continues to support the F. C. Snyder Memorial Scholar-
ship Fund in honor of her late husband, Franklin, a long time club member who loved Longue
Vue and particularly our employees. Through the ensuing years, the Fund has greatly helped
dozens of our employees with their education; including caddies, waitresses, pro shop, locker
room, greens and pool workers. The F. C. Snyder Scholarship Fund has given out over
$560,000.00 in scholarship aid based on club employment, need, diligence, and grades.
On Saturday, August 9, 2014, we will hold our 22nd Annual F.C. Snyder Golf Tournament, the
keystone of our fund raising. Those who have played in the past know what a great day it is
and we hope they will sign up again. This year’s fee is $150.00 which includes a continental
breakfast, golf, cart, golf course refreshments, a sumptuous lunch and great prizes. The event
is open to all members and guests.
However, if you are unable to support the Fund by playing, we are asking that you be a Hole
Sponsor by buying a tee sign. The tee signs are available in three categories, Bronze at
$150.00, Silver at $250.00, or Gold at $500.00.
You can participate by sending a check payable to “Franklin C. Snyder/Longue Vue Club Em-
ployee Scholarship Fund” to Ken Pizzica at the club or you may choose to put it on your ac-
count. A reply card has been included with this newsletter. Keep in mind that the Fund has
been approved by the IRS as a non-taxable foundation. Thank you.

MODIFI ED POOL H OURS
The Longue Vue Swim Team concluded another solid season last month. The
team finished with four wins and two close losses, including a 3-point loss to Butler
Country Club (a perennial powerhouse). The team had standout performances all
season long and defeated rival Pittsburgh Field Club at their own pool. At the
WPCCSA Championship meet the team recorded a 10th place finish, narrowly missing
out on a 6th place finish by only a few points. This marked the 5
th consecutive year
that Longue Vue has placed in the top 10 at the league’s championship meet. Many
swimmers recorded multiple top 6 finishes. Once again, Longue Vue relied on its re-
lay strength to score the majority of its points. The Boys’ 10 & under 100-meter free-
style relay team of JP Dockey, Ben Hower, Wyatt Lyda and Ryan O’Toole took home
2nd
place, which was Longue Vue’s highest placing in any event at the meet. In addi-
tion, the 8 & under Boys’ 100-meter freestyle relay team and the Girls’ 12 & under 200
-meter medley relay team recorded 3rd
place finishes. Longue Vue’s highest placing
individual swimmer was Grant Geraci, who took home 4th place in the Boys’ 13-14 50-
meter freestyle. Overall, the team improved greatly as the season progressed and will
look towards next summer to crack the top 5 at the Championship meet.
Please note that the pool hours have been modified during the last week in August.
