We are all in this

together!!! 4 Nov @18:30 – LGOS Library

+House rules before we start

When more than one voices are in the room, nobody

is listening. So…..

There MAY be time for questions. HOWEVER, ask

questions with Rukunegara 5 in mind – provocative

questions are no-no‟s.

We welcome CONSTRUCTIVE feedbacks NOT

ARMCHAIR CRITICS

We came as Malaysians, we will stay as Malaysians

the university

To have a minimum balance of £400 for the next

committee

+Aims and Objectives

AGM

AGM date to be changed to Semester 1

2011/2012 (subject to committee‟s unanimous

approval) as it is argued that there would be a

better response in attendance at an earlier stage

of the year. Motivation levels are higher at the

beginning of the year

+Aims and Objectives

Events

for Malaysians

Annual calendar to be structured to advertise to

members of upcoming events and as means of

keeping interest from members.

Liverpool Malaysian Night proposed (if desired)

to be held in Semester 1 2011/2012.

+What does the society do for you?

„ROAR‟

Reference point

Organise events

Arrange activities

Represent

+What do you do for the society?

Play an active role

Constructive criticism

Be helpful (ie. Not a pain)

+ Other Malaysian Societies in

LiverpoolContrary to popular belief, Malaysians are UNITED

and the reason for different societies existing is

because of different roles and functions

+Committee‟s Reflection

Having less than 10 part-timers is not enough to run

a society with 100 +++ members

Lots of idea but little could be done

Some of us are not that experienced with running a

big society like this

BIG EXPECTATIONS BUT LITTLE SUPPORT

+Areas undeveloped:

Sponsorship

Constitution

Activism

Charity

Publicity

Sports

+BREAK 1

We are all in this together!

All for one, One for all.

There is no I in team

No man is an island

+AGM 2009/2010

To report and elect new committee members

~20 people

4 people ran for 4 different posts

Reflection:

Minimal participation from members

Probably end of year is not the best time.

+Malaysian Study Group Session

To increase performance for exams

A few came. (< than 10)

Aka MASGO as in „Must-Go‟

Reflection:

Some find it useful

Better do it when there is actual interest in doing

study group among Malaysians

+BBQ KUL-LMS-MSC BBQ

To have fun and bond with Malaysians

Can‟t estimate total members

Potluck style - Lots of good food

Reflections:

Members who came were mainly those who are also

members of MSC

Many could not come because already went back to

Malaysia

+Welcome Fair + Ice Breaker

To promote LMS to new students

About 80 people came

We also promote the raya celebration which would

be held on the following week

Reflection

Not bad

Could be improved by greeting freshers at the airport

and assisting them with accommodation before

coming here

+Chesire Oaks outing

To introduce Chesire Oaks to new members

About 20+ came

Basically, it is a field trip

Reflections

Objective achieved

Could have been better if we could get benefits of

going as a group

+Halloween Night

To execute a smashing Halloween event with SingSoc and

HKSoc

About less than 10 tickets sold by the committee and another

20 tickets sold at the door (Malaysians)

Fun and exciting with many different costume

Reflections:

We need to change the culture of buying at the last minute (Buy

from committee =£5, At the door = £8)

Because of that, we got a lower profit margin

+Liverpudlians go to Nottingham

Games To participate in the biggest Malaysian games in UK

About 33 people went to Notts.

We susidised registration fees instead of transportation

fee

Won silver in Men‟s single table tennis : Ridhwan

Reflections:

Not bad

Not enough training sessions and lack of monitoring

them

+Winter makan-makan

To do an end of year dinner for Malaysians

50 people came

Held at Red Hot, 2 Birthdays on that day

Heavily subsidised to avoid a bigger loss

Reflections

To avoid loss, perhaps we should not book until we

are sure we have XX many people

Early promotion would have been needed

+Chinese New Year

To celebrate Chinese New Year with a BANG!!

Opened a Facebook group to get everyone excited

Dinner and karaoke at Shang Ri-La – 50/60 came

Charged £1 extra as buffer

+Chinese New Year

Reflections:

Could have been made bigger and more exciting by

joining XJTLU society

Should be made our core event

Book places when confirmed numbers that are

coming

If possible, let‟s change the place

+Bulan Sukan Liverpool (joined with

KUL) To promote sportsmanship among Malaysians

Those who participated are mainly members of KUL

Lots of games included and a lot of Malaysian food

sold by our lovely kakak PhD.

Reflections:

Those who went had fun.

Should be promoted more to encourage participation

+24 Festival Drums Launching at

Feedback Session

To launch 24FD and have a feedback session on

what people think of the society

Extremely low turnout

Reflections:

Low turnout resulted in us going back to our friends

and get their feedbacks (bias and not very helpful)

24FD – The guild is highly interested in them but

sadly, our members are not that keen.

+UKEC Amazing Race Manchester

To promote UKEC to Malaysians and

encourage teamwork games in the

North West region

Sponsored 2 teams from Liverpool

Reflection:

The teams that went said it was a

good experience

+Hijrah Project

To assist Malaysian students from Malaysia until

they reached Liverpool

A project organised by Education Malaysia with

cooperation of MSC and KUL

What did we do:

Help make the Student Survival Guide

Promote Cardiff‟s Freshers Camp

Student ambassador - Chloe

Meet and greet at the airport

Utilised Facebook group to help freshers during

pre-departure.

+Hijrah Project

Reflection:

A very good initiative

Got in contact with students before they arrive

Managed to help almost everyone to get settle in

Hopefully, next year will be better

+Welcome Fair + Ice Breaker

To encourage the members for 2011/2012 to get to

know one another.

100 people turnout for Ice Breaker

Survey to find out areas of interest.

Reflections:

Probably it would be better to get a bigger venue

Suggestions: To make multiple circles with one

facilitator in each circle to encourage a more active

participation. (LDK style)

+Chesire Oaks Trip

To introduce Chesire Oaks to new members in

preparation for the cold winter.

Turnout was great (Needed to make 2 trips)

A bit smarter this time, booked a group visit and got

discount cards

Reflections:

Permanently included in our annual calender

+Halloween 2011

To make a Halloween event collaborated with

Chinese Society, HKSoc and SingSoc

Turnout was good

We managed to get some profit (coming from those

paying at the door and non-members)

Reflection:

Many enjoyed themselves

Nobody was admitted into A&E or arrested

+Would Like To Do But Could Not…

Tour Liverpool – visit exciting places, go to museum etc

Travel trips to Chester, areas around or outside Liverpool

Liverpool Malaysian Night 2011

Paintball with Chinese Society

MASGO 2

Talks

End of year BBQ

+What needs to be improved

5 people is definitely not enough to do all these

events well - Sometimes we have to juggle

managing more than one event at the same time

Promotion is super duper important

Facebook „attending‟ list is not reliable at all

Need more money to subsidise more

Many open meetings but low turnouts makes them

less useful.

+What needs to be improved

Would be better if we could give members a

list of expected events so that they know what

to expect

Venturing with other societies is good to make

grander events and events which would be

difficult to cater by ourselves.

Get a photographer for each event

Suggestion: Project based management might

had been a better way to get more people

involve, lighten the load each person is

carrying and to make a grander event

+Break 2

MENGIMBAS 2010:2011 (Reminiscing 2010:2011)

Take home message:

Many things you can do, achieve and accomplish while

you are here

Hope that all of you can get nice wonderful picture

Don‟t forget to stop and smell the roses every now and

then.

+Financial Report

Why do I bother telling you this?

To inform where does the membership fees go

To help make everyone understand how the

society work

Financial challenges are the second biggest

obstacle after human resource problems

Not to scare but to let everyone know.
