CHARACTER EDUCATION

Lindbergh Character Education Mission Statement

Character education is a fundamental component of a student’s education requiring the commitment of the community, parents, students, faculty and staff. An educated citizen is the foundation of a democratic society in which respect and responsibility determine strength.

There is no single script for effective character education, but there are some important basic principles. The eleven principles serve as criteria that schools and other groups can use to plan a character education effort.

From Patriot Day (9/11/07) to Thanksgiving (11/22/07), Lindbergh School District

challenged all Lindbergh staff, students and families to donate five to 10 hours of

volunteer time to make the community a better place. Through this District-wide

community service initiative, “A Heart to Serve, Hands to Help,” over 32,000 hours assisting others were donated. The goal of 25,000 hours was surpassed through the District’s strong adherence to character

values and developing competent and caring students. It’s projects like this that continue to

influence our students in a positive way.

Glory Of MissouriRecognizes students in all grades for outstanding demonstration of a particular trait. Students travel to the state capital for recognition at the House of Representatives by Rep. Jim Avery.

Principle VIIIThe Lindbergh Staff is a

learning and moral community in which all share responsibility for character education and attempt to adhere to the same core values that guide the education of

students.

Lindbergh recruits parents and community

members as full partners in the character-building

effort.

Evaluates the character of the school, the school

staff as character educators, and the

extent to which students manifest good character.
