OURPURPOSE:

TheintendedpurposeoftheLincolnSouthwestHighSchoolShowChoirsistopromotetheachievementofperformanceexcellence,throughthedevelopmentofmusicianshipinvocalperformanceandchoreographicskills.Studentswillbeexpectedtostriveforexcellenceinperformancethroughappropriatebehavior,workethic,attitudeandenergy.Studentswillbeexpectedtosetgoalsbothindividuallyandasagroup,demonstratingresponsibilityandpurposesinachievingthedesiredgoals.Studentswillbeexpectedtounderstandandexecute“performancediscipline”indailyrehearsalsandinscheduledperformances.Studentswillperformasambassadorstotheschool,communityandstate.

1.ELIGIBILITY:1.1.Acandidatefor“ResonanceShowChoir”or“AmbienceShowChoir”maybemaleorfemale,astudentofSouthwestHighSchoolandin10th,11thor12thgrade.1.2.Candidateswillbeselectedthroughauditions.Theauditionswillbeannouncedinadvance.Studentswillsignupforauditionslotsorauditioninclass.Eachstudentwillcompleteavocalplacementinclass/outofschool.Also,twochoreographydateswillbescheduledinadvanceforstudentstoauditionforthedanceplacement.1.3.Candidateswillbeacceptedbasedupontrustinthestudent’swillingnesstomeetthedemandsofshowchoirparticipation,vocalability,coordinationofmovement,acceptanceofshowchoirmembershiprules,andwithoutprejudiceofrace,creed,colororreligion.2.MEMBERSHIP:2.1.EachoftheLincolnSouthwestHighSchoolShowChoirswillconsistofnomorethan60singers.Additionalmembersmaybeadmittedandallowedtofillvacantensemblepositionsafterauditionshavebeenheldduetothefollowingconditions:studentvacanciesinthegroupandstudentsnewtoSouthwestHighSchoolafterauditionshavetakenplace.2.2.TheShowChoirswillparticipateatscheduledSouthwestHighconcerts,competitions,fundraisers,andcommunityeventsforwhichadvancenoticeofatleasttwoweekswillbegiven.3.ATTENDANCEREQUIREMENTS:3.1.AllShowChoirmemberswillregisterfortheappropriateShowChoirclass.AllShowChoirmemberswillattendallextrarehearsals,choreographyworkshops,competitions,scheduledconcertsandperformancesfortheentirescheduledtimeunlessanabsenceispre-approvedbythedirector.(UnexcusedabsenceswouldbeConcerts,FamilyDinners,Work,Non-LSWAffiliatedActivities).UnexcusedTARDIESofthree(3)ormoreclasses,outsiderehearsals,workshops,competitions,scheduledconcertsandperformanceswillresultinprobationofthestudent.UnexcusedABSENCESofoneclass,outsiderehearsal,workshop,competition,scheduledconcertsandperformanceswillALSOresultinprobationofthestudent.Duringprobationthestudentwillbeallowedtorehearsebutnotperformwiththegroup.Theprobationwilllastnomorethanfourweeks.Ifthestudenthasanunexcusedabsencefromarehearsalwhileonprobation,theywillberemovedfromthegroup/class.3.2.Summer/FallChoreographyCamp:ItisVITALallshowchoirmembersattend.Itisimportantthatstudentsplanaheadandavoidconflictswithfamilyvacations,tripsetc.Informationregarding

scheduledcamps,rehearsalsetc.willbeavailableontheSouthwestHighShowChoirwebsite(wp.lps.org/ajacobs2)3.3.Competitions:Allshowchoirmembersarerequiredtoattendcompetitions.Whenonepersonismissing,theentiregroupsuffers.3.4.Intheeventofillness,parents/guardiansshouldcontactthedirectorbyphoneorE-mailwithin24hoursofthemissedrehearsal.Afterthattime,theabsencewillbeconsideredunexcused.Ifamembermustunexpectedlymissacompetitionduetoasuddenillnessorfamilyemergency,thedirectororastudentcaptainshouldbenotifiedassoonaspossible.Contacttelephonenumberswillbeprovided.4.CONDUCT:4.1.ShowChoirmembersareexpectedtoupholdALLLincolnSouthwestHighSchoolrulesandpolicieswhileparticipatingbothonandoffcampus.4.2.Membersaretorefrainfrom“inappropriate”behaviorduringpre-performancetime,afterperformancetime,duringfreetimeetc.whenatcompetitions,workshops,performances,etc.Vulgarlanguage,inappropriatecommentsorattitudes,andinappropriatedisplaysofaffectionsareunacceptablebehaviorsandwillresultinremovalfromthegroup/class.5.DISCIPLINARYACTION:5.1.ShowChoirmemberswhoactinviolationoftherulesandregulationsoftheensemblewillbesubjecttodisciplinaryactionasdeterminedbyschooladministration.Parentswillbenotifiedofanyissuesintheclassroom.Iftheproblemspersist,theperformerwillbeplacedonprobation.Membersonprobationwillnotbeallowedtoperformbutwillbeexpectedtocontinuerehearsalsinthehopetheycanrejointhegroup’sperformanceschedule.Ifamembercontinuestodisregardrulesandregulationswhileonprobation,thememberwillberemovedfromtheensemble.5.2.AShowChoirmembermaybesuspendedfromperformancesforthefollowing:Three(3)unexcusedabsencesfromrehearsals,concerts,orperformances.Tardiness,three(3)tardies(classandextrarehearsals).Non-compliancewithrulesandregulationsoftheensemble.Failuretocooperatewiththedirector.Failuretocooperatewithothermembersoftheensemble.5.3.AShowChoirmembermaybedismissedfromtheensembleforthefollowing:Consistentandexcessivedisruptiveconduct(bothinrehearsaland/orperformance).Useofdrugsand/oralcohol(includingtobaccoproducts).ANYactionthatreflectsnegativelyontheshowchoirand/ortheschool.

6.FINANCIALRESPONSIBILITIES:6.1.Memberswillberequiredtopayforequipmentandattiresuchascostumesandrequiredaccessoriesneededfortheclass,nottoexceed$500.00(perpolicy5520)foraschoolyear.6.2.Necessaryclothing/materials:showchoirmemberswillbeexpectedtopurchasetheirownmakeup,shoes,socks,stockings,andundergarmentsaslistedbythedirector.Theseitemsarenotpartoftheoverallcostumecost.6.3.SouthwestHighSchoolSummerand/orFallChoreographerCamps:Theshowchoirmemberwillberesponsibleforthecostofattending.Fundraiserprojectswillbeavailabletohelpstudentsoffsetthecostofthecamp.Studentswhoareunable/unwillingtofundraisewillneedtofindalternativemethodsofcoveringthesecosts.6.4.Membersareresponsiblefortheirownmealsandbeveragesontripsandatcompetitions.6.5.Everyeffortwillbemadetokeepcostsdownforthegroupwhilemaintainingahighcompetitivestandard;however,thereareadditionalcostssuchascompetitionfees,transportationcosts,arrangements,Copyrightfees,choreographyandmiscellaneousexpenseswhicharenotmandatorybutneedtobecoveredanyway.6.6.Studentswilllearnoftheiracceptanceintothegroupinthespringsemesteroftheprecedingyear.Allpayments/donationsneedtobereceivedbyNovember10th.Studentsunabletogettheiraccountpaidoffbythispointmustmakearrangementswiththedirectororforfeittheirrighttoperforminconcertsandcompetitions.Studentsontheobligationlistarealsounabletopurchasedancetickets,receivereportcards,orreceivetheirdiplomaatthegraduationceremony.7.FUNDRAISINGACTIVITIES:7.1.AllShowChoirmembersareexpectedtoassistwithfundraisingprojectsthroughouttheyear.Themoneyraisedwillbeusedtofundadditionalinstructionalcostssuchaschoreography,competitionfees,transportationcosts,etc.7.2.Somefundraisingprojectswillbeofindividualnaturewhileotherswillinvolvetheentiregroup.Theguidelinesforeachfundraiserwillbediscussedwiththestudentasthefundraiserapproaches.7.3.Anypositivebalanceinanindividualaccountatyearsendwillautomaticallyrolloverintotheirindividualaccountforthenextyear.Ifastudentisnotinshowchoirthefollowingyear,anypositivebalanceintheirindividualaccountwillautomaticallyrollintothegeneralscholarshipaccount.7.4.Thedirectorwillapproveallfundraisingactivities

AUDITIONS:8.1.Anauditionisrequiredtoestablishthefollowing:todemonstratesingingandvocalability,coordinatedmovement,andstagepresence.Anaccompanistandanadditionalteachermaybepresentduringauditionstoassistwiththeselectionoftheparticipants.Avideocameraoraudiotapemaybeusedduringtheaudition.Thedirectorwillmakethefinalselectionofapplicants.8.2.Auditionswilltakeplaceinspringsemester.Additionalauditionsmaybeconductedatothertimesatthediscretionofthedirector.8.3.Theformatoftheauditionswillbedeterminedbythedirector.Theauditionswillbecarriedoutinafair,appropriateandprofessionalmannerconducivetoallowingeachcandidatetoshowhis/hertalent,abilitiesandpotential.9.REHEARSALSCHEDULE:9.1.Thedirectorwillsettherehearsalschedule.Theregularrehearsalschedulewillbe5-7onTuesdayforResonanceand3:15-5onTuesdayforAmbience.AdditionalpracticesmaybecalledonSaturdaysorbefore/afterschoolasneeded.Advancenoticewillbegivenfortheserehearsals.9.2.Studentsinvolvedinanotheractivityorhaveaconflictonthedayslistedfortheirpracticesshouldinformthedirector/coachandtrytoworkoutacompromise.Studentsshouldnotexpectthedirectortoworkitout.Itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytocomeupwithasolution,presentthesolutiontothedirectorandthenimplementtheplan.Ifthestudentisunabletoworkoutacompromise,thedirectorwillmakethisdecisionforyou.9.3.Allshowchoirmembersarerequiredtoattendallrehearsals.Parentalpermissionintheformofasignednote,phonecall,ore-mailajacobs2@lps.orgwillberequiredtomissarehearsal.Notes,phonecalls,ore-mailsreceivedthedayofarehearsalwillbeunexcusedexceptintheeventofanemergency.Studentsmustmakethedirectorawareofconflictsnolessthan24hoursinadvance.Seesection5.2withregardtotardiness.Reminder:(UnexcusedabsenceswouldbeConcerts,FamilyDinners,Work,Non-LSWAffiliatedActivities).10.APPEARANCE:10.1Membersshouldstrivefora‘uniform’andneatappearance.10.2Costumes/Uniformsshouldbekeptcleanandstoredproperlybetweenperformances.10.3Make-upforperformanceshouldbe‘uniform’.Therewillbeashowchoirmake-uplearningsessioninthefall.Forhygienicreasons,eachfemaleperformermaybeaskedtopurchaseaspecificbrand/shadeofmake-up.

10.4Eachperformerisresponsibleforkeepingtheirhairneatandsecuredupandoutoftheface.Thehairshouldnotneedattentionordrawnegativeattentionduringaperformance.Useofhaircareproductswilllikelybenecessary.Insomecases,ahaircutortrimmaybenecessary.10.5Ladiesmusthaveclearnailsforperformances.Gentlemenshouldhaveaclean-cuthaircutwithouthaircoveringtheireyebrows.11.DISCIPLINARYACTION:11.1Showchoirmemberswhoactinviolationoftherulesandregulationsoftheensemblewillbesubjecttodisciplinaryaction.Thestudentwillfirstmeetwiththedirectorinanattempttoresolvedisciplinaryissues.Parentswillbenotifiedofanyissuesintheclassroom.Iftheproblemspersist,theperformerwillbeplacedonprobation.Membersonprobationwillnotbeallowedtoperformbutwillbeexpectedtocontinuewithrehearsalsinthehopethattheycanrejointhegroup’sperformanceschedule.Ifamembercontinuestodisregardrulesandregulationswhileonprobation,thememberwillberemovedfromtheensemble.11.2Ashowchoirmembermaybesuspendedfromperformancesforthefollowingreasons:1unexcusedabsencesfromrehearsals,concerts,orperformances;tardiness(3ormoretimes),non-compliancewithrulesandregulationsoftheensemble,failuretocooperatewiththedirector,failuretocooperatewithothermembersoftheensemble.11..3Ashowchoirmemberwillbedismissedfromtheensembleforthefollowing:Consistentandexcessivedisruptiveconduct(bothinrehearsaland/orperformance),useofdrugsand/oralcohol(includingtobaccoproducts)asdecidedbyLSWCodeofConduct,andANYactionthatreflectsnegativelyontheshowchoirand/ortheschool.

Show Choir Participant Costs Thecostofparticipatinginshowchoirisconsiderableandmustbeconsideredbeforetryouts.AccordingtocurrentLPSregulations,wecanonlyaskforfamiliestocover$500forcostuming,howeveritcostsLSW$600perstudenttomaintainourcurrentprogram.Parentdonations,individualfundraising,orlargegroupfundraisingcancovertheremainderofthecost.Parentsofstudentswhomayrequirefinancialassistanceshouldcontactthedirectorpriortoauditioning.Studentsandfamiliesinneedoffinancialassistanceshouldcontactthedirector.Allfinancialassistanceinformationiskeptcompletelyconfidential.While$600mayseemlikealotofmoney,keepinmindthatstudentsparticipateinthegroupalmostyearround.Thisworksouttobeonly$50/monthor$1.65/day!!Remember,thisisNOTtheamountwecanchargeyou.Belowaretheapproximatecostsinvolvedinashowchoirprogramofourcaliber.Thelevelofourcompetitionseasonwillbedeterminedbytheamountofmoneywereceive.COSTUMES: Guys/GirlsShowCostumeCost $500.00 COMPETITIONS: EntranceCosts $5.00 BusingCosts $30.00 HotelCosts $25.00 CompetitionApparel(T-Shirt) $5.00 OTHERS: Choreographer/ClinicianCosts $25.00 Music,Arrangement/CopyrightCosts $10.00 GrandTotal $600.00 PAYMENTSCHEDULE:Ifyoupaythefull$500costumecosts,PLUSthe1300donationcosts,youwillfollowthebelowpaymentplan:Payment#1 Costume–dueJune24th $200.00Payment#2 Costume–dueSeptember1st $200.00 Donation#3 Costume/Travel/Miscelleanous–dueNovember7th $200.00AnyoutstandingbalanceduenolaterthanDecember10th,2019willbegiventothebookkeeperandaddedtothefineslist.Studentsthatfailtomakearrangementswiththedirectorwillnotbeallowedtoperformonconcerts,peprallies,and/orcompetitionsinwhichtheshowchoirisinvolved.
