Application Process Overview

• License qualified individuals (AS#)

• License qualified general business corporations and/or limited liability companies (MH#)

• Regulates the practice of Landscape Architecture

• Investigates complaints and takes disciplinary action

Licensed Landscape Architect

License to Practice

• No one may practice as a licensed landscape architect without a current, active license

• No general business corporation or limited liability company can provide or offer to provide landscape architecture services without a Certificate of Authorization to provide or offer to provide landscape architecture services

How Do I Get an Application Form?

• Applications for initial license can be downloaded from the Board’s website (applicant holds no license)

• Application for licensure as a landscape architect without the LARE (applicant is licensed in another state)

• Reference forms (for both applications above) can also be downloaded from the Board’s website at: www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/land

• Application for Certificate of Authorization to provide or offer to provide landscape architectural services (general business corporations and/or limited liability companies)

How Application Process for Individuals

1. Submit an application ($125)

2. Send supporting documents to the Board (no CLARB Council Record)

1. College transcripts2. Five (5) references 3. Verification of License with UNE/LARE Exam grades

3. Contact CLARB to have council record forwarded to the Board

4. Submit additional information (as required)

5. Submit Name form with license fee ($160/$80)

Application for Certificate of Authorization

1. Submit an application form ($100)

2. Send supporting documents1. Certificate of Incorporation / Certificate of Formation papers2. Certificate of Authorization issued by Department of Treasury/Division of Revenue (for

foreign corporations only)3. Most recent copy of Annual Report filed with Division of Treasury/Revenue4. Copy of signed contract with licensed landscape architect (only if landscape architect is

not a full-time employee of the company)

• Application Fees:

Individual applications: $125

Certificate of Authorization: $100

Payable by check or money order

NO CASH

Application Questions

• Moral Character – Arrests/Convictions(if answered ‘yes’ documentation must be included with application submission)

• Professional Character – other Board actions (if answered ‘yes’ documentation must be included with application submission)

• Citizenship / Immigration Status (if not a U.S. Citizen, attach a copy of front and back of alien registration card or otherdocumentation issued by the office of USCIS)

• Student Loans (if answered ‘yes’ documentary evidence concerning plan for repayment of student loan)

• Child Support

Initial Registration Fee

Landscape Architect application approval:

• Applicant will receive a letter concerning the licensing fees as well as the name form.

• Applicant must complete the Name form for how you want your name to appear on the seal press and wall certificate (First name, middle initial, last name)

• Return form with appropriate licensing fee ($160 / $80)

Certificate of Authorization application approval:

• Applicant will receive a letter concerning the licensing fees

• Submit appropriate licensing fee ($500 / $250)

Keeping Your License Current

• Licenses are valid for 2 years

• Every licensed landscape architect license expires May 31st of even-numbered years regardless of initial license date

• Every Certificate of Authorization license expires May 31st of odd-numbered years regardless of initial license date

• You must keep your address current with the Board to receive renewal notices

• Renewals are done online and require a renewal fee (Landscape Architects $160 / Certificate of Authorization $500)

Continuing Education

• You must complete your continuing education prior to renewal (June 1 through May 31 of even-numbered years)

• Licensed Landscape Architects must complete 24 credits during each two-year period.

• Licensed Landscape Architects are exempt from obtaining continuing education for the first renewal period only.

• Any licensed architect and/or licensed professional engineer, who is also licensed to practice landscape architecture, shall certify to the Board that he/she has attended / participated in not less than 12 hours of continuing education in landscape architecture.

• Carry over credits are not permitted for future renewal periods.

Tips for the Application Process

• Mail the application with as much supporting information as possible

• Be clear about what name appears on your application and supporting documents

• Use the P.O. Box to mail items to the Board

• Submit as much information as possible, if you answer “yes” to any of the questions #4 through 16
