Reading can be defined as “the act of decodinggraphic material in order to determine its message.”To put it another way, reading consists of comingback to speech through its graphic symbols. Inshort, meanings reside in the sounds of the spokenlanguage. Speaking a language is the necessaryfirst step to acquiring the ability to read a languagewith meaning.
The reading lessons in Brazilian Portuguese IIIare designed to familiarize you with material(signs, words, and phrases) that you are likely tosee or hear in a Portuguese-speaking country.
The recorded portion of the reading materialsfor Brazilian Portuguese III will be found at theend of the program. You can do these readings as itis most convenient for you. They can be done alongwith the units, roughly at a one to two ratio, or doneentirely after completing the full 30 units.Instructions on how to proceed with the readingsare contained in the audio portion of the course.
