Low Noise Amplifiers
Low noise amplifiers from Kuhne electronic are available for frequencies between 1 MHz and 50 GHz. There are special designs for super low noise applications as well as broadband amplifiers for indus-trial use. Our high IP3 LNAs provide best performance in large signal environments.
Typical applications of our low noise amplifiers are analog and digital radio links, satellite reception, avionics and radio astronomy. Special versions for customer specific applications can be requested.
Get best low noise performance!
The best low noise performance is achieved, when the LNA is installed directly at the receiving an-tenna. The insertion loss of additional cables, adaptors and other components between antenna and LNA increases the total noise figure.
The following diagram gives an idea about the effect of losses and signal attenuation in a receiving system. The upper two curves show the case, when a very long and lossy cable is installed between antenna and the LNA. The attenuation directly adds to the noise figure. As a result, the total system noise figure increases very much. In the example, the LNA has a fixed gain of 20 dB. Two curves for a noise figure of 0.5 dB and 1.0 dB are shown. The attenuation is variable.
System setup with bad noise performance:
If the LNA is installed directly at the antenna, the total noise figure of the system is mainly deter-mined by the noise figure of the LNA itself. Even if a long and lossy cable is installed between LNA and receiver, the noise figure remains at a lower level. The two lower curves in the diagram show a system, where the attenuation is inserted behind the LNA.

Broadband Low Noise Amplifier for 100...500 MHz
These preamplifiers are designed for applications in the VHF and UHF communications range. They provide low noise figure, excellent large signal performance and high linearity. Due to the balanced amplifier design, a very good input return loss is achieved. The preamplifiers can be supplied via coaxial cable to the output connector (remote power supply) or on a solder pin directly at the case.

Low Noise Amplifiers
These preamplifiers are designed for radio link systems. They feature low noise figure, excellent large signal performance and high linearity. Due to the balanced amplifier design, a very good input return loss is achieved. This results in a huge range of applications for the preamplifiers. Typical applications are digital radio links or broadcast systems. To save an extra DC cable, the preamplifiers can be supplied via the coaxial RF cable (remote power supply).

Super Low Noise HEMT Amplifiers for 47000...47250 MHz
The amplifier MKU LNA 472 B for 47 GHz achieves a low noise figure and a high output power. Therefore, it can be used as a preamplifier or as a power amplifier as well. The waveguide input is directly coupled to the internal PCB for minimum losses. Due to its small meachanical dimensions, the module can be used for building very compact receive or transmit systems.

With this new developed amplifier MKU LNA 473 A based on the 0.15 pHEMT technology the combination of very low noise figure and a high output power in one product has been achieved. This amplifier is suitable for receiving and trans-mitting as well. By using a waveguide transfer switch or a rotate mechanism this amplifier can be implemented in a trans-verter which will increase the transmit and receive performance drastically.To reduce losses to a minimum the board is coupled directly to the waveguide input. The small mechnical dimensions allow the construction of very tight transmit and receive systems.

Power Amplifiers
Kuhne electronic has a long experience in the development and production of solid state power amplifiers. This has lead to a huge choice of power amplifiers which cover the frequency range from 100 MHz to 50 GHz and reach an output power up to 500 watts.
Standard products are available for a va-riety of different applications. Typical ap-plications are analog and digital broadcast systems, telecommunication systems or radio links. Of course, the power ampli-fiers are also suitable for special applica-tions like laboratory and measurement equipment, which is often needed at uni-versities and research institutes.
In addition to that, Kuhne electronic of-fers customer defined power amplifiers. If you do not find a suitable power ampli-fier within our standard products, please do not hesitate to contact us and send your desired technical specification.
Cooling of Power Amplifiers
All power amplifiers need sufficient cool-ing to prevent overheat damages or de-struction of semiconductor devices. So, what cooling method is the best one?
There is no simple answer to this ques-tion. The best solution depends on many aspects, like environmental conditions, ambient temperature, total power dis-sipation of the power amplifier and me-chanical space for additional components. Kuhne electronic recommends heat sinks and fans for some of the power amplifi-ers. These are suitable for normal envi-ronments (e.g. indoors at room tempera-ture). However, if the amplifiers are run under extreme conditions, an individual solution must be realized by the user.
Some types of heat sinks and fans are available from Kuhne electronic. As a service, the power amplifiers can be or-dered together with heat sink and fans. Please request for more information!
